Oddly, I personally see a lunatic asylum in the middle of a forest.

What is your magic persona? Just wondering if my extensive knowledge of bondage knots will fit your character or being suspended in, or in the path of, a felled tree will work for you.

Hello Lady of Mystery,

Thank you, it is nice to meet you. Escape Artistry is a fascinating art, primarily to me because of the knots when one uses rope. I have a wonderful book called The Ashley Book of Knots which has over 1900 different kinds. I had always wanted to get the book and then one day a friend gave it to me. I highly recommend it to anybody interested in rope magic or escapes using ropes. You can also use the knots on silks if silks are your form of magic.

I haven't really done any illusions using knots yet, but that would be fun to invent some. It just occured to me that something like the Gordian Knot from mythology could be a fun rope and knot illusion to try to do but instead of cutting the rope like was done in the stories, simply make the knot disappear.

I'm glad we got talking about ropes because it just gave me that idea. It's interesting how conversations can lead your imagination to tricks like that, even when it appears the conversation is going in directions you might not want it to go. Magic is fun that way, ideas are everywhere especially in the most unlikely places.

Love,

Amanda

Magical Interests

Postby Amanda Angeli » Jun 25th, '07, 16:12

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to explain a bit about my love of magic for I'm sure there are many of you out there like me. Magic to me is not merely about doing the act itself, that to me is merely the end result.

Magic, as I see it, is a path, and a huge part of that path is practice. To me, that is what makes the difference between someone who does magic and someone who sees it as an art.

In other words, it is the training that I truly enjoy and have so much fun with and then that pays off in the end with the actual performance, of course. In designing illusions and escapes, because they are my tricks and about me, I design them and plan them revolving around things I am interested in.

Therefore, since I like knots, I am an escape artist. And, since I love physical training of all kinds, I use my escape training and illusion training as a method of staying in shape as well as I use things like flexibility exercises, aerial stunts, and balancing skills. Each of these things to me are fun to do and then I simply make tricks or acts around them. The same concept applies to large scale illusions. I like swimming so doing water illusions makes sense to me. And, I love the outdoors so I center my magic on outdoor activities such as hiking and such. There's really nothing more to it than that. I'm sure people will read all kinds of things into what I say but the bottom line is I use magic to train my physical and mental skills in all manner of things as well as to express myself artistically and of course for performance and entertainment for those are the culmination of all the hard work.

Well, that's just a bit about me and how and why I do the magic I do.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

She's a California girl. Any of you folks that live in the states realize that that explains quite a lot...

Welcome to the forums, Amanda.

Fire and Water

Postby Amanda Angeli » Jun 25th, '07, 19:00

Hello Mike,

It is very nice to meet you. I'd love to hear about what kind of magic that you like to do. You've already probably read what I enjoy.

Oh, and hey, I just went for a walk, found a rock, and got a fun idea for some slight of hand involving water, fire, and my favorite gem, emeralds.

Does anybody know about rubber skin? I need a piece that looks real and would be about 2 inches around and somehow able to stick well enough to my skin that it can hold water beneath it. I'm sure that there must be someone who knows of such a thing. I really would appreciate any of your suggestions. Also, what type of glue would one use? I also need to be able to instantly make fire in my hand.

Thank you so much for any help.

Love,

Amanda

I am with the wand on this.I love the floor it is so earthy and allows me to escape this plane just by digging. The trees grown to the sky and I am high. Gah.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Hello Wills,

I'll bet that you have a wonderful little sister. Does she do magic too? She's so lucky to have a brother who does magic. When I was little, I had to more or less learn on my own. I did learn some card stuff from my Daddy and Grandpa, particularly as it related to poker (Five Card Draw). I suppose that's why I like poker and card tricks to this day. The fun thing about cards is that you can carry them with you anyplace and also someone pretty much anywhere has them no matter where you go. I always carry mine in my purse. I like several decks, the Bee brand, red, because they are poker cards, and the Ghost deck because it is just fun and reminds me of New Orleans Voodoo.

Thank you for your kind welcome. It is fun to meet nice people like you.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

My wee sister is very good at magic- she is great at bill switches, money vanishes, levitating (drives me up the walls) and she is also a great mentalist (as in she makes me mental). Only joking she's a wee star really.

Michael Jay says that you are from California and I also see that your an artist. So that explains a lot, you seem to be a right little 'free spirit'.

Good stuff about the card magic I can relate to that, not so much in your other areas of magic :D

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Hello Citrus,

Thank you for welcoming me. It is really nice to meet you. I just love your name. Of course, that is partially because I do my best to be a fruitarian as much as I can so I can identify with your fun name.

As for my introduction, well, magic to me is about totally having fun and being original and creative. Quite simply, my magical style is rather a hang loose sort of thing filled with a free-spirit dancing in-the-moment sort of magic.

Whomping rocks and when the waves call, magic happens. And yes, for those of you who might wonder such things, I do have a levitating surfboard act.

Love,

Amanda Angeli
