I have a 'stereotypical' black and white wand, which I sometimes use - coin unique tricks, childrens tricks and maybe sometimes in my cup and balls routine.

So, as the title says, I am just wondering, does anyone use a magic wand in their routines?
If yes, what kind, where did you get it, when do you use it, what reactions do you get if / when you use it?

btw, the main reason I ask is I'm after a wooden wand, but not painted - I cant find any without being given a harry potter / LOTR style wand...are they worth being used?

I used to sell magic wands! Hence my TM name! Sold the biz a long time back now though. No I don't use them. Apart from cup and ball type routines I don't think they really fit in with most magician's routines.

I have thought about introducing one into a bizarre style routine, and may actually do that soon. Thanks for reminding me!

No magic wands here, and nor will there be.

I use a wand for sponge balls, ring on wand, wand through handkerchief and so on. Mine is a "close up" wand from Paul Howard - rosewood with brass tips.

I'm thinking of buying one that bangs and flashes for my children's shows.
They like things like that.

I have a wand but never use it.

The reason that I keep it is that it was a present from my daughter and it's a sealed acrylic tube, about 12 inches in length.

It's filled with clear liquid and lots of glitter including small stars, moons and glitter dust. These move from end to end within the wand as it's tilted and moved I have to say that it looks rather good, particularly when the light hits it and it appears to change colour as it moves.

She bought it in the fairy shop in Marlborough (Wiltshire) if anyone's interested.

If I need one I use a sharpie....I thought that was why they were aka magic markers...well, thats what I tell my beloved speccys at any rate

Wands I have:

Silly Wand ( concertina type wand you can make into shapes and letters )

Inflatable wand

Nest of wands

Breakaway wands.

5 or 6 normal wands

One I can't remeber the name, but the end is on elastic.

I still want to add a few more, so I can have a selection for various shows. ( I wouldn't use all of them in one show, but I do use different ones for routines )

I have a Fantasio Vanishing Flute which technically could be used as some kind of wand. I've had it for about ten years though and never used it.

I've never used wands when performing for someone I want to impress, like friends or family, and I mostly do card magic, so a wand really gets in my way-
I really like wands though, I would really use them If it wasnt an inconvenience.

yep sharpie wand for me too when doing coin stuff

wow, cheers everyone for the advice and comments, when you say magic sharpie, do you just mean a normal sharpie used as a wand (ie use it to point at coins, cards etc) or can you buy special sharpies?

(sorry if this sounds silly - Im used to using cards and coins, and I dont know any routines which involve signed cards or signed coins, so have no sharpie knowledge)

I don't have any magic wands but I have a lot of Hand Sticks (a juggling prop), it's basically a length of wood covered in rubber [fnarr fnarr], i use those as a magic wand sometimes

oh right, that sounds cool - do you juggle / use diablo in your acts? or does it just make a better wand for you (the only reason I ask is I look at your photo and see you balancing a tennisball on your head - so assume you might have circus style skills as well as magic?)
