Hi folks,
Does anybody know of any decent books or videos for learning sleights with cards and coins? I'm not strictly a beginner and do have some knowledge of card and coin manipulation, but having seen Aces' review on the basic card technique video I will probably buy that. Is the "Royal Road to Card Magic" worth buying and does it contain anything different to the above video? I think I might have a butchers at the Andrus Card Control books as well. I'm also looking for the same with coins.
Cheers for the help, only i don't want to splash out thirty odd quid on a video only to find out it's rubbish.
Oh and by the way, does anyone know of any good books/vids with card or coin routines? Only there's no point having all the skill in the world and not knowing what to do with it. Thanks lads.

royal road allthough old is still in my opinion the best book you can buy for learning all the basic to novice sleights and includes great tricks to be done with them plus i'ts less than half the price of a video. The sequel 'expert card techique' is again another great book but much more advanced.

There is only one coin book :-) J.B. Bobo Modern Coin Magic It is the bible of coin magic ISBN 0-486-24258-7 if you are in to coins and dont have this book you have a hole in your library.

Another good book for coins with some fun stuff in is Karl Fulves Self-Working coin magic ISBN 0-486-26179-4

I also have a DVD called The Complete Introduction To Coin Magic by Michael Ammar this is very good and Michael is a great teacher.

I have also heard that McClintock is releaseing a video called knucklebusters but I dont know when that becomes available but it promises to be a good vid.

The most comprehensive guide to learning card sleights is "Daryl's Encyclopaedia of Card Sleights".
This is an 8 video set that teaches hundreds of moves and their variations.
It is used as a reference tool, so that when you are learning a new routine you just refer to the tutorial for the sleights required as and when you need them, it is not intended as a course on card sleights and contains very little in the way of flourishes.

Not that i want to deprive magic suppilers of any money can i recommend a visit to your local library.

I bought loads of books, then went to my local and guess what the books i bought, were sitting there on the shelves.

Also if you do hire the book, there is nothing stopping you buying it once you have read it and if you like it.

In my opinion, I think that David Regal's trio of tapes and Martin Nash's tapes, all of 'em, are the greatest tapes one could own. Regal's tapes because of the unique patter he comes up with for his tricks and Nash's tapes because....well only because he's the greatest damn card shark in the world. Not a single card move or sleight is missed in the Nash videos.

4 card flourishes I recommend the Jeff McBride sets. Have only got vol. 1 but it's pretty good. wink change, snap change, perfect production and loads more.

For coins I would go with David Roths series of coin magic.. he is the master and he makes it really easy to learn.. Be prepared for living with coins in your palms though..

For cards Definitly Micheal Ammars Easy to Master Card Miracles. BAR NONE.. I think Daryls stuff is too hard for a beginner..and you won't learn any tricks. Most bang for the buck in my opinion
LOL

Cheers
Jimmy
