The Riser Deck £44.99

Postby Trickyfied » Jul 15th, '07, 22:04

Has anyone purchased the riser deck (not card rising out of deck), see this link http://www.alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Hot_List_1.html

I would love to read a honest review before spending such a large chunk of money on an effect, in the shop review it says 'no switch', but after watching the video clip it would apear to me that a switch is made after a card is chosen to make this work. Of course I am only guessing how it is done and DO NOT want exposure just a good review will be nice. Anyone?

The way he handles the deck in the video I'm wondering if it's like the gimmick used in Daryl's Ambitious Card DVD.

I havent got Daryls dvd but there is a move on the alakazam vid that he does that suggests a gaff box, hence the reason i dont think a card could be selected from it, but I am not trying to work out how its done so much as is it a gaff box or some ingenious deck that the spec freely selects a card from.

I have been humming and haring about getting this. It comes out in September, so I intend to inspect closer to the release

I hate to say this, but the Daryl ref is spot on it would seem.

I would also suggest, Alakazam, if you're listening:
EDIT YOUR VIDEO: the method it tipped. Anyone who knows the Daryl method will work this out in seconds (especially the hiding of the deck's inner end and the turning the deck end-to-end).

Very sloppy of Alakazam to show this in a demo video. For that kind of money, I'd want mechanics of some kind!

I'm presuming this is the same effect as was mentioned in todays Alakazam email flyer but now seems to be priced at £14.99.

Can anyone confirm this, seems strange the big price drop of £30.00.

As to the actual item does anyone have it, can anyone review it, any sleights involved or is it sleight less. I don't do the ambitious card routine but can think of many other uses where a card ends up on top when opened from a card box.

Riser Deck is still a staggering £45 on Alakazams' home page.

This *may* be a mistake.

However, it seems a bit more like a bargain at £14... but even then, I'd still recommend you buy Daryl's Ambitious Card DVD ;)

Oops so it is, dunno why I thought it was £14.99, obviously to early in the day to be looking at magic stuff.

It really is beginning to annoy me to see products offered for sale as if they're available, but which haven't yet been released. It's nearly as bad as developers taking pre-orders for products that aren't finished.

There is discussion of the Riser Deck on the Magic Cafe, including a post from Peter Nardi.

The card can be signed but not chosen from the deck, it's an absolutely devastating effect to see but I personally wouldn't pay that much for it. The reason it costs so much however is that each deck is handmade and takes about 4 hours to create, ergo it's going to be pricey.

It's a one-trick pony so maybe only worth paying for if you're a worker and want a nice Darylesque end to an ACR for example.

I have just seen this thread and was going to to add the exact reference to Daryl's ACR.

I understand that is may be hassle free to buy the gaff deck rather than make your own but I wouldnt spend that much on something I could make myself :? Its basically one move on an ACR. I hope I can say that.. it doesnt really give it away.. but its a lot of money to spend on a finishing reveal !!

I like the look of Acension on the other hand, but is the price justified for that too>

From what I have seen and read there is one BIG difference between Daryl’s ultimate ambitious and the riser deck, the spectator can push the card there self into any position of the deck and then remove it from the top at the end.
Hope that helps.
