the rising deck

Postby greenbelter » Mar 19th, '04, 13:01

I tired the rising deck just for sheer visial factor. The girl held the card but the card took ages to rise. It made it all the more funny. As the card rose and the deck was the the other way round, I said don't cheer it could be the wrong card. Then my friend shouts hey come on wrong card come out of the deck.

it was ok but I guess i've been let down from this trick and the card has lost its grip and only rises halway.

Anyone else used this trick or should I have steered clear of this one?

EEEK!

The mechanics of the rising deck are such that it CAN indeed be prone to failure.

There aren't really any solutions, except for careful handling. The deck is very delicate and needs to always be kept totally flat, no bends or buckles.

The most reliable material I found for the 'gripper' dot would seem to be Uhu's 'white tak' - like blue tak, but white...

Aside from that, consider other 'rising deck' methods.... and consider not having the deck rise in a speccys hand.

Gimmicks such as these can be frightfully unreliable... and for that reason, if you are performing for money, I would advise that unless you can guarantee the functionality, you should steer clear.

The 'other', less mechanical effects, can be equally as impressive.

There's more than one way to work the rising card routine and there are ways that are more or less reliable, delicate, or practical than others.

You might want to look into some other rising card variations if you like the effect, but not the particular version you have.

Of course the problem is that, unless you get a chance to try it out, you might end up with another version you don't like. Try discussing it with a magic dealer and getting their views on different products.

By favourite version of the rising cards is either McBrides Kundilini Rising or Henry Evans / Verones Rising Card. Both use regular packs. For a truly excellent impromptu rising card (that is very good) check out David Acer Nocturnal creations 2.
