what are some card trick dvd's

today i realized that my arsenal of card tricks is a little weak. are there any dvd's/videos/books that you would reccommend that are based on teaching just tricks aside from Born To Perform. i would also prefer if the dvd was mainly about tricks as opposed to mainly card flourishes and a few tricks thrown in.

Get Jay Sankey's Revolutinary Card Magic. Killer stuff!

Do you know the basics of card magic? if not, R. Paul Wilson's Royal Road to Card Magic DVD. even if you know the basics, i would recommend it, great easy tricks, great tips from Paul, and, his performances are what a performance should be, I learned most from this.

If it's too pricey, i heard Ellusionist's Ninja series is alright, if you can deal with the annoying gritty style of E.

Sankey's is alright, not as good as RRTCM

Why just tricks? Would it not be useful to learn the sleights?

Pick up RRTCM and Card College and I hear Art of Astonishment, Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleights, anything by Daryl.

How many is weak? Some people may have a dozen or so and still think that's not enough whereas in my experience that's too many. Sit down and reel off 12 card tricks and most people will turn off after four or five. Better to 'perfect' those that you know, rather than learn more if this is the case. If it does happen to be the case then experiment in other areas of magic such as coins. Moving from cards to coins and then back again will keep an audience of friends and family amazed for much longer.

I would also second the recommendation about learning some more sleights from sources such as Royal Road. Don't confuse sleights with flourishes

I would agree with the above, get some books, RRTCM being probably the best all round, learn some sleights, and from those moves, after some practice, you will be able to come upw ith many thousands of tricks.

I've been spending the last few months practicing card sleights, and am currently starting to select a few tricks that I want to hone and perfect and add to my arsenal, as it were. I have performed tricks ouf of royal road, which seems to be a good way to start as there are some great tricks in there, good for getting performance experience. I am now working on one trick and have been doing so for the past two weeks, using my knowledge of the sleights I am comfortable performing, taking inspiration from various other tricks, and working mainly on my patter and performance and the feling of magic I want to convey. It's all coming together nicely, and I cannot wait to finish it. It's an awesome feeling when you come up with a trick yourself, even if it is just taking parts from other tricks and fitting them together neatly. I find the most satisfying bit so far has been coming up with the patter and performance.
