Dan and Dave's "Subway" help

Postby Kenneth » Jul 27th, '07, 18:29

I dont own the trilogy, but I bought "Five" where the trick was first published, i've got the trick down until the end, where you push the cards in, and the selection comes out the oposite end, the book does not explain how to do it at all, and I'm sure somebody knows the trick and please, how does this work, the book does it no justice...

Thanks!

I couldnt explain it if I tried.

I bought the Trilogy SOLELY to see live action of how to do Tivo 2.0 as the description is Sleightly Magical, while somewhat clear, was still confusing.

I would advise purchasing the DVD's.. they are WELL worth the money..!!

Yea, the dan and dave books explain everything so much in depth, until the actual "magic" part, they give like one sentence...

I don't know if it's any help but you have to bend the cards upwards with your index finger so they arch a bit.. Then it should work..

... I figured out subway from watching the demo...

Anyways, it's just friction. If you have two out jogged cards sandwiching a card that's squared with the deck, it pinches the card just enough to push it out when the two cards are pushed flush with the pack.

I hope that was clear enough.

Mods, feel free to edit this post if you happen to feel it's exposing the method.

[edit] I usually don't have to bend it upward. A slightly used deck (not brand new and slippery) works fine with no bending.

Yeah, bending them like that does it for me. You should definitely get the trilogy if you like Dan and Dave's work.

Yeah they call it the "plunger principle". As ChristianL's pic shows giving the sandwich packet a slight bow does make the selection come out alot easier. Also a good idea to keep that packet relatively small (by spreading to near the end of the deck before you flip two cards face up and keep the split less than half) which will make it easier to bow and give a cleaner look.

Also, i find a better reaction when the two packets are kept seperate after the transpo.
