Now I realise there's a hint of facetiousness here, but I'm still serious...

When I first got into magic it took over my life, needless to say. I would never be seen without a deck of cards. Pub, friends houses, wherever.

I became a card bore.

After a while this was curtailed, with of course some gentle pressure from my remaining friends. It still lied bubbling under the surface however, like an evil alien slime of some sort.

And it started to grow. I never left the house without a deck of cards. I started to leave decks in places incase I forgot, like at work or at my girlfriend's house. This compulsiveness started to take hold: What if I am spotted practicing and I'm asked to perform? I might screw up... The ID must also come out. What if I want show off my new ACR? Well then, Mr Sharpie will have to keep me company.

I now fill up all of my pocket space with my magic junk, even when I'm just leaving the house for a mince around town.

My question: Is this normal or is it verging on compulsive?
If so, does anyone else carry magic items around like a third limbs?
Like what?

Oh and by the way, card bores? Pah. There's no worse bore in the world than a church organ bore. :| I've met one.
Unless you know different.

Church organ bores are nothing, try going to a cycling club dinner and having to sit there while everyone talks about the latest pedals or handlebars.

I'm not too bad when it comes to carrying things around, I've always got a haunted key on my key ring and a pack of cards in my pocket but that's about it.

I don't think there is any cure for this. At any one time in my jacket pocket there is at least one deck of cards, 3 sponge balls, a TT and a sharpie =/

I've dropped a lot of detritus over the past year, and I sometimes go for weeks without showing anyone anything because I'm not in the mood. I still go out with an ID, a full stacked deck, and a "shuffling" deck, though. Saturday afternoon is the main time for me to show people things, especially if I'm excited over something new. Lots of people, lots of willing barmaids.

And anyway, decks make my cargos hang better. 8)

I always carry 'revelation' by Wayne Dobson for when i am asked for my business card. I also normally have a regular deck and one of the little outlaw effects books. If you have not got revelation then i recommend you check it out, great for a quick effect :P

I sit at work all day fiddling with a 2 pound coin. Then I go home and fiddle with cards all night.
I really need to get a life someday.

I always carry a deck of cards with me and some loose coins in my pocket. I sometimes even take a deck into school to practice at dinner times and such. I too really need to get a life!

You'll probably get fed up of it soon. I was like you, I used to take a deck around all the time, and perform everytime I went out, the same effect over and over.

Now I only take it out every now and then, give my friends a break.

Good reason to learn coin magic.

I've recently taken to keeping a deck of cards at work, and spend most of the day at the moment practicing my tenkai, as well as card throwing when the office is empty. Always fiddling around with coins as well. And I have been known to leave a friends to go home early cos I want to get in some practice with my cards (although only if it wasn't terribly entertaining where I was)

I always have either my PK ring on me or a substitute that will slip under my normal ring.

Never leave home without my wallet either!

some halfs and english pennys, a silver english, coper/silver and gold half, haunted key on keyring, nothing much.

i carry them mostly for sentimental reasons thease days, sort of a magicians security blanket, so your in the same boat as the rest of us, its not a bad life realy.

You're fine... Trust me, I'm worse than you. My social status has dropped significantly in the past 2 years because I never stop!

Learn coin tricks?

I can Guarantee you people wil be more impressed if you can pick up anything from the table or from their pockets, without having to reach for the cards straight away.

a simple vanish normally is enough for people to be impressed, get some napkins use them a spongeballs?
at work use a mug and do a cup and ball routine

then bring out the cards, guaranteed more respect and more people will talk about you.

you wont just be the guy who does that card trick where its on the top.

you will be the magician

Thanks Aaron. I'm actually trying to head in the 'impromptu' direction and coins are perfect.

I'm a bit like a eunuch in this department; I know how it's all done, but don't ask me to give a demonstration.

Laccy bands anyone?

I carry a deck of cards on me always. other than that, a TT, a panther wallet which holds kioku, sanctum and Between the Lines. I carry ladybug as it is tiny and very small to pack, Interlace is set up generally as I have set up in most trousers.

sounds a lot but it packs very small. And theres always stuff that can be donw with borrowed objects.
