Sponge Rabbit problem!

Postby Farlsborough » Aug 8th, '07, 15:26

Hi guys,
I recently bought Daryl's "Papa Rabbit hits the Big Time" product as I quite like using sponge rabbits and liked this presentational angle. However, I was disappointed with the sponges it came with - a bit too big for confident handling and the sponge is very stiff, like it's just been punched out of a car-washing sponge than made for magic. More annoying is that in the video, Daryl himself doesn't use these!

So I'm looking for the rabbits he uses in the video, and I think I've found them. Obviously he thought a custom made product would be better than drawing on the sponges with marker, but I beg to differ - what's important to me is that the sponge is easily compressable etc... it's a real shame he couldn't go to Goshman for his product to be made.

Anyway, these are the sponge rabbits I'm after:

They're dirt cheap, but unfortunately only seem available at US online stores which don't accept Paypal and only accept orders of $25 or more, plus there'll be the charge for international shipping... which seems stupid to get my hands on a product worth about £2.50.
So if anyone has seen these rabbits in a UK online shop, or a bricks and mortar magic shop, or if any of our American TMers use "Abra4Magic" regularly and could tag this on their order and post them to the UK and accept paypal payment in return, please get in touch!

Thanks guys and gals :)

I've not seen those ones but I'm sure cards4magic sell rabbits and I've never had a problem with anything I've bought from there

Cheers guys but it is very specifically the exact rabbits above that I am after, they have the necessary quality for use in Daryl's routine.

Are these the ones which look different depending on which way you view them?

Eugene Burger recommends soaking sponges in hot soapy water overnight to 'break them down' and stop them being so stiff. Maybe worth a try?

Mandrake - correct!
And Lozey - thanks for the tip, I did try this sage advice from Mr. Burger but to no avail... I guess if it really is just car-washing sponge it's been made to withstand a lot of hot soapy water!

Quack  !!! Doesn't Darryl sell these himself? He demoed the routine three or four years ago at a local convention and I'm sure he had shedloads of the things on sale afterwards.

I had some of these in stock... they're made by Royal.

I can get them for you for just under £1 a set (4 babies, 2 adults) if you want a few sets.

Let me know.

they do look very similar in shape to 'rabbits rabbits rabbits everywhere' by gosh, but in these are red. i have these and although I'm not sponge mad i think they are very good.
you get 3x2.5'' rabbits and a whole bunch (about 20) little ones and a big pill which can either be for headaches or contraception depending on the audience.
