I know it's been dicussed to death on this forum but if you don't have it, i must recommend "Still Fancy a Pot of Jam" the James Brown DVD.

I don't think i'll find a DVD with as much useable stuff again for a while.

Righty-ho chappies; seeing as the two weeks is up now, here's the recommendations:

THE LIST, AS IT STANDS SO FAR:
Screwed deck

Die-Cipher

Full Facts of Cold Reading

Far Sight

Apocolypse

Close to Death

(Absolute magic is now listed at £80, so out of my price range!)

I'll leave it until this time tomorrow, for any last-minute recommendations, and then launch the final 'Purchase Poll' :D

Thanks for all your suggestions so far!

Rob

I will personally send you that extra tenner to get you to have that book if I have to - trust me - i am only half way through and it is definately worth the £75 I paid for it!

I recommend the Tarbell books. For the price you pay you get more than your moneys worth, tricks wise and lots of principles to take on board.
Also, other aspects of magic are covered such as stage illusions, escapology, so if they ever take your fancy you've got info on it.

I learnt more from Tarbell than anywhere. Although originally written in the twenties, the material is used today and there are some real gems in there. A truly classic work that any real magician should have on their bookshelf.

The only people I know that sell them are Davenports and www.internationalmagic.co.uk
At Davvies, the first volume is cheaper about £18 I think, the rest are £21 except vol 8 which is £27.
I know you can buy the whole course for about £120 and the good man Allen Tipton can point you in the direction to buy it as a whole.

I bought the individual volumes and loved each one so much I collected the whole set over a number of years.

Not many magic dealers sell them (as they are not the latest flashy effect) which is a crying shame as to me these books are my bible of magic and gave me a grounding in sleight of hand and magic principles.

There's a few lessons on presentation, publicity, how to make an audience laugh, etc and each book represents good value. I've seen some of the effects selling singularly for about a tenner!

Volume three has the classic swallowing needles and razor blades trick!!

I'm reading this at the moment and you could squeeze it in for £70. It's a very good read but is focussed on performance.

That's actually the very next item on the agenda, Abraxus, old chum!

I should be receiving Art of Astonishment any day now, and am hoping that this'll kick me off in several directions - watch this space! :D

Well - he was pretty good with the last item I had off you Seigey, old chap, so I have high hopes that the up-coming weekend will be absolutely jam-packed with astonishment

BTW - did I bag your very last set of these?
