Forcing Cards

Postby SlipperyPenguin » Apr 16th, '04, 11:57

Hi..

Can anyone recommend a good book or DVD that explains all the card forces known to man.

I already have the Kaufman DVD and the Royal Road to card magic but they don't explain things like the classic or riffle force etc.. I would really like to learn the riffle force primarily but would really like to know quite a few.

Thanks

I don't think Kaufman's Basic Card Technique has much on forces - there is a book called 202 Ways to Force a card though. Available from the Card Collection.

Very cheap - but not sure how good it is.

On the contrary - I'm sure there's a whole chapter on forces. About two thirds of the way through the book. Not sure of the chapter number or anything cos it's at home, but I'll let you know.

I'm sure that's where I learned the forces I use.

Edited: yep, here's a chapter listing for RRTCM.

you might find it worthwhile sitting down and working out why you need to know all these forces.
In most cases, the riffle force, the clasic force, and ( my personal fave) the cut deeper force is enough. In a programe of card effects, you shold not make every single effect a " pick a card" effect, because there are only so many ways in which you could make the reveal entertaining.
You might look at Daryls card revelation dvd, to see most of the good practical versions.
It is possibly better for you to have a free choice made, and then by using either a cull, bottom placement, of pass, get that card to where you can use it, or better yet, get a couple of decent peeks under your belt, and leave the thing where it is.
At least that way, there is nothing to go wrong. No force is 100% unless you use a forcng deck of some kind.
Eliminate that worry from the routine, and you have more time to concentrate on presentation.

202 Methods of forcing is by Annemann and is quite good in that you'll get a ton of different methods (about 202  ), but it doesn't go into as much detail as you get in RRTCM. I got mine on cd1 of The Learned Pig cd's - but I'm not sure if they're available any more. I agree with daleshrimpton - unless you're some type of 'force collector' I would focus on perfecting a couple of forces - whatever seems most natural in the way you present things.
You have to just like feel the force, Luke (ok - couldn't resist that)

Thanks everyone..

Maybe I gave the wrong impression...

I will learn two or three very well.. (as suggested)

But I am really intrigued by the fact that you can get a spectator to pick the card you want them too without them realising.. I find this really interesting and hence why i am interested in find out about them all (or a majority at least).

I don't want to do them all.. just need one or two.. (like the riffle and classic), just interested

Thanks everyone for your help

Slippery

Sorry to misunderstand you. It is interesting :)
I really enjoy some of the psychological forces in Anneman's book. I've used one quite often and it works 90% of the time
