Been reading as a guest for a bit, I decided to be polite and join up even if I have very little to contribute.

History -- was keen magician in my teens starting with Paul Daniels sets then on to Royal Road and Mark Wilson then stopped when University started. Now I'm slowly picking it back up as a hobby again.

I like card tricks (don't all amateurs?) and close-up in general -- while I love the skill of stage illusionists, they don't really connect with me.

What I want from TM -- nothing elaborate, I like the book/dvd reviews and I hope to find some names of practitioners to enjoy in my local area (I can't drive and a member of my family is presently housebound so I can't really travel much either so it's a shame there's no magic shop in town -- are there reviews of online suppliers? Can't find any with the search but I'm probably doing it wrong)

I've read the rules and the FAQ but this intro may be the only thing I write here for months.

Hello.

A very warm welcome to TM - I'm pretty certain you won't want to lurk for long

Here's a nice magic shop finder; hope it's of use!!

Welcome to TM

Looks like you have had the same 'classic' start with the Paul Daniels set that many of us had

Hi!

Welcome to TalkMagic - I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I've only come across it recently, but have found it quite addictive. I'm in Edinburgh as well, a relative newbie though (very much enjoying Royal Road and Mark Wilson at the moment, amongst one or two others!)

I haven't had any luck finding a magic shop nearby - Tam Shepherds in Glasgow might be the nearest (although I'd be delighted to hear otherwise!)

Doug.
