What do you think the best card force is?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

the Parcel Force is with me at the moment, I have a new job.

You should try actually performing a trick at that angle! it's a good thing i can do most of my tricks without looking at my hands

Just thought I'd chime in with my noob two cents, but I'm finding the sliding key force from RRTCM is my favourite so far. Pretty foolproof, and doesn't seem too contrived to the spectator.

If you like the sliding key card force then you will love the version in one of the Vernon card books. I forget what the hell it is called but it is even better than the Royal Road to Card Magic version although it is basically the same thing. Another one along the same lines is described by Harry Lorayne in one of his books. I think the Vernon one is best though.

There was a big discussion on here about the classic force and Paul Green got involved. I think the classic force is probably the best although there is a slight chance of failure. If I really have to have the correct card forced I use the Vernon one described above.

The classic force works well and I can do it 7 times out of 10. If I fail I simply use the force card as a key card having the selected card replaced beneath it. Just lately I have been having good results forcing the card behind my back with the classic force.

However there are some forces which may well rival the classic force. Johnny Paul used to throw the deck in a spread on the table and ask a spectator to pick one. It was forced. One card stood out more than the others.

There are also a number of mental card forces. The spectator just looks at a fan of cards and picks one. You know what it is. Excellent but again a little chancy and I am not sure what your out would be if you got it wrong. Stick to the classic force.

Al Koran's night club force is a great one. Very bold but it works amazingly enough.

I always used to laugh at Geoffrey Robinson's force. He would go down into the audience and ask someone to choose a card. He would just hand them the top card! Only the people close to the spectator would know what had happened but the rest of the audience were fooled.

However all things considered I think the classic force is hard to beat.

great string guys.

My favorite is The riffle/break force I learnt from a Jay Sankey vid. but its worth learning a few well. If you are going to do a run of card trincks that invole forces. then its best to not use the same one over and over, cause then some smart ass will figure you our... keep em guessing by using five forces on them through the routines.

Is it not 'The Force With No Name'?

I don't think so. That may have been something to do with Anneman who interestingly enough wrote a book entitled "202 methods of forcing"

I wish I had the energy to go and look it up but I haven't. It is in the forcing chapter in one of the Ganson card books about Vernon.

I don't like forces that are really self working as in automatic. Anything except those.

I like the classic, riffle and the hindu force. These are all good for a single card force. If I have a routine the involves the need to force two or more cards, I use the overhand shuffle force. Again, as Seige said, there is no force better than the other if you perform them correctly.

I don't perform any card magic, but when I did, my favorite force was the dribble force.

i always use the riffle force, havent really tried any of the others  i find it works perfectly though, and its good when standing up and so on, of course top card forceis probably the easiest although if the tricks good enough i dont think people will ever think twice about how they chose the card in the first place.

I'd second the various comments about the usefulness of a force being in relationship to the demands of the routine. Personally, I use the classic force a lot (rather like the palm, I often use it when I don't really need to - but it keeps my skills sharp). If I need something surefire, I'll usually use a riffle or slip force.

Well if I dont really do a prediction-type of magic where you must force anything (if i normaly use the classic one^^)
I normally prefer hand out the deck and then let them pull out any card.
Using any peak afterwards for mentalism effects.

card force ?

Postby super mario » Sep 12th, '07, 18:52

Hi,
I think one should use the one you feel good about it.
I mean:
Once you got a prefered system, NO NEED TO CHANGE FOR SOMETHING ELSE
even if friends are telling you to changefor this or this.
_________
Litle story:
I was preforming some time ago, in south africa, one of the best casinos over there.
I was doing a number in witch i had to force a card, so , I did have in my left pocket a prepared deck ,
once the moment of the forcing thing to come, I place my hand into the pocket, took the deck out, and even with out looking at the cards, and feeling very sure of myself, i offered the spectator to pick up a card,
once he had the card on his hand, there was no going in back possibility, AND THEN I realize that, I got the WRONG DECK
I forgot that my asistent has given me a new jacket (I use to change close during my show)
And that the deck in the pocket was not the one I was needing.
IT WAS A TOTALLY NORMAL DECK 5TO BE USED LATER FOR SOMETHING ELSE

GOD HELP ME WHAT DO I DO NOW.
My reputation is at steak
I was ready to improvise to see how I was going to survive this one.
"Can you please show the FREELY SELECTED CARD TO AVERY ONE PLEASE" I sad
"ONE IN A MILLON TIME"
"ALL MAGICIENS DREAM AT LIST"

Beleave it or not, thIS PERSON JUST SELECTED AT RANDOM A card AND WAS EXACTLY THE ONE I NEED IT CORRESPONDING WITH MY PREVIOUS MENTAL PREDICTION.

So you see.... from then ..... this is my prefered card force.... and thats why I do really BELEAVE IN MAGIC;

Hi Super Mario.

I used to hate it when forces went wrong and I can relate to your little story.

But now if a force fails I simply have the card returned to the deck and catch a g******. I have only two g******s that I use, one for when I shuffle the deck and one for when I don't.

That is all I ever use. They are both effective and very easy.

I use very few tricks that fail if the force fails. This is by design; we all know how embarrassing it is to suffer catastrophic failure.
And if by chance they do fail, I always keep a back-up, 'sacrificial' trick just in case, one that can be relied upon as a way out and I one that I can guarantee has not been used in the performance already.

Or ID If I can't be bothered.

I hope you all understand the point I'm trying to make here.
Regards,

Mark
