Can you do the four coin roll down flourisH? Which method do you use? Orginally, I started out using Bobo's verison, and then I tried Mark Wilson's verison. Both, I can't seem to do. No matter how hard I practiced, I failed every time. So I found another method. I posted a thread on another magic UK forum, and someone told me a method where you simply 'catch' the last coin as it falls into place with your pinky. Now, I could do it up to the last part with the pinky (where the pinky has to grab it). I put 5 hours a day into practicing it. Now, after about 4 days, I can finally do it. Not fast, or super good, but I can do it sometimes. And I suppose when I practice it more eventually I'll be able to do it faster, and more effective every time I do it.

I posted a video of me doing it on the members section. I had a member tell me this method was the "wrong" method and he said he'd show me his method. Personally, I don't think there's a "wrong" method, as long as it looks good to a laymen. So does this method too.

So, can you do this flourish? How difficult would you rate it, and do you think there is a 'proper' way to do it?

I'm not sure where mine is taught, but I learned the one where the middle finger pulls two coins from the other fingers as it stretches out. I learned it in a couple hours. I can do a cycle where the coins are rolled, then balanced on the fingertips, then rolled again. I'd say it's difficulty depends on how much dexterity you have to start with. I started trying after I was already pretty good with my hands, so it came pretty easily. Back when I started, I doubt I could have done it at all.

Just keep on trying.

These two people both teach the method I choose. How hard would consider this flourisH?

A COUPLE HOURS??? That's insane, I've been working on it (the easist method from those links) for 5 hours a day, 5 days now. Still can't do it every time.

*rolling my eyess* If your audience likes it and you are getting the results you want then it is the correct method. There are some serious magic snobs out there and the best thing you can do is listen to them divide what they say by three, then glean what you can. I was once asking a spectator to choose a card and was using a spring fan where the cards just kind of leap from one hand to the other stopping in a fan position its simply a flourish I like. Later some 'magician' came up to me and told me that my card fan was not correct. And he did a pressure fan explaining to me that until I could do that, (which I can) that I should not be performing. I thanked him politely and asked where he was currently performing so perhaps I could catch his show and learn a thing or two. Of course he wasn't performing anywhere. He then told me he graduated from the Tannen's school of magic. (pardon me for forgetting the name of it at the moment but it used to be the 'premier' magic school in the USA. He also went on to tell me that he didn't like my card force. I don't use a card force so I offered to do the effect again for him and perhaps he could point out what he was seeing so I could learn what I was doing wrong. At which point he walked away without saying another word.

bmat is exactly right. I made a post in your other thread about that comment you heard on Ellusionist. This is a flourish. If it looks pretty and it works, it is a correct method. There is no THE correct method for this flourish there are many different and effective methods.
