For someone with a deadline, I seem to be doing a lot of faffing about and avoiding writing today[1]. I've just discovered that series E of QI starts tonight. Hurrah! A bit of quality telly!

Now now if you all got sacked for skiving you would all be up in arms wouldnt you? Except Tomo he is all free lance.

A wise man once said to me "All this lot in here who do nothing are first up in arms when they get sacked, them who work hard all the time just leave with out making a sound"

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Aye, 'appen. If you have time to tell people how busy you are, you're not that busy.

What really seperates us from the animals, I think, is not the ability to create but rather, the ability to lie on our beds watching DVDs with the nagging thought that we ought to be creating.

Ive done nothing all day today! Im about to go to work though, where i get to play with my cards, drink beer, read the paper, play darts, sit around doing almost nothing and serve the occasional customer. Is it possible that ive learnt how to skive from work while actually being at work, working?

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

I, unfortunately, have not been able to skive today.

I did try, but to no avail.
I had TM in that little bar at the bottom, you know, the one that everyone looks at when they go past your computer and they have a look down there, just for a nose.
Well it was there all day and not once did I have a chance to look at anything. Pah.

Mind you, I've discovered (in an idle moment at work, naturally) that you can't switch off this little bar on our work computers. I tried, but failed. This is apparently so that the boss can see what you're looking at when he/she walks past.
However I have also discovered that if you adjust the monitor settings so that the bottom of the screen is lost off the edge of the monitor, then you can't see this bar. Result.

you could also grab the task bar and drag it down under the bottom of the screen so you can't see it

I've been having this terrible problem at school where I can't help sleeping in my classes. I get enough sleep at night, but I contiually doze off during the day. *YAWN* I think I'll go back to bed, now.

I love English Magic

Postby Amanda Angeli » Oct 2nd, '07, 02:07

Hello All,

You know why I so love learning about British Magic, it's because of all the wonderful words you all use, like, well skiving. Golly, I mean, I had no idea what in the world the term meant and then I found out that England led the world in skiving. Goodness gracious me oh my!!!

I can so hardly wait to join the gang when I move across the pond. I was born in the wrong country, I should have been a Welsh lass I think.

Well, hugs to all the skivers. I can't say that I'm a skiver, since my "job," is designing my Illusions and then preparing them and I'd hate to execute a French Bridge without a rope from 40 feet all because I skived on biners or some such thing.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

Hello Amanda.

Yes, skiving is very British. It's also an art form.

Skiving is essential to one's mental wellbeing. It is necessary to have at least ten minutes skive a day minimum, in fact it's statutory in the UK. Employers in this country have to legally allow for it.

Today I have skived only once, and that was writing this message. Yesterday however I nipped home for a nap in between jobs.

Monker59, you need to learn how to sleep while keeping your eyes open. It's a tactic I learned and employ during other people's presentations.

Firstly, you need to support your head. Don't allow yourself to adopt the 'bored' position (you know, the one where your head just flops onto your hand). You need to adopt the 'Hmm, that's interesting' position (like you're rubbing your chin) but cleverly disguising the fact that you're supporting the weight of your head.
Then allow yourself to drift nicely. The thing to aim for is the state when your eyes begin to point different directions just before you drop off. Hold this position - you'll eventually learn to sleep while doing this.

Hey presto, job done. To your lecturer/teacher you'll look like your're paying rapt attention. Needless to say, you're not.

Marky's got the right idea, the secret of a good skive is to do the absolute minimum while you're boss thinks you're working hard. :D

I dont so much skive off work, I just organise the magic business instead of planning fibre and duct routings. Paid off anyway, been asked to go into ITV this week and film a program.

Horray for procrastinating!!!
