Ring boxes, topits and general nonsense

Postby Ed Wood » Oct 3rd, '07, 10:45

So I was driving home last night thinking to myself that I need a little something extra at the end of my ring float. The obvious answer was a disapearence and reapearence. I'm thinking along the lines of ring being placed in a ring box, given to spec and finding it's way to another spec holding a seemingly empty matching box. Now the most obvious and easiest method for this will be sleight of hand, switching boxes etc and this leads me to thinking I'll need to get rid of the third box at some point, and this leads me to think, yes I'm almost getting to my point, of the topit. I've never bothered with the topit previously so my question is, finally, is the Ammar material and his pattern still the best stuff out there or has anyone come up with anything better in the last 25 years?
Any info on good material out there for switching one small box for another would also be appreciated as would any gimmicked ring boxes that may make life easier (it would help if they actually look like ring boxes and not obscure props.
Cheers, Ed

get "ring of chance"

using the principal involved, you can have a ring "appear" and "vanish" from any box, whenever you wish - completely ungimmicked also...

Just had a look at ring of chance, has its possibilities. Do the boxes look like normal ring boxes? Can they be squeezed in spectators hands, as they concentrate on sending the ring from one box to the other, without fear of any trickery being discovered?

The ammar topit pattern is fantastic. However, it's not something that you'll pick up in 5 minutes and have looking natural straight away, it takes a lot of practice to get looking half decent.

Done correctly though a topit vanish can be the most amazing there is

This is the only site I've been able to find ring of chance on:
http://www.mreenterprises.co.uk/viewproduct.php?id=321
Would be interested in knowing more if anyone out there has it.

The Ammar Topit pattern is the one I think I'll go for, although I have heard a few good things about Cellini's topit. There's so little information out there though on topits that its hard to judge so I think I'll just play it safe and go for Ammars and his DVD, the mans never done me wrong before.
Anyone got any opinions on Bob Fitch's Topit DVD's, at £75 for the set they need to be good.

indeed that is what site it is on.

The ring boxes are completely ungimmicked - any can be used - can even be different colours! In fact, using what is taught, you can use one blue and one green ring box. Show the ring in the blue box, shut it, show the green box empty, shut it, hand them to the specs to squeeze, and then have them open them to find they have switched.

Whilst in concept I think this would be perfect I have some doubts about this. Please don't give anything away but if all I'm paying for here is a couple of normal ring boxes and and knowledge of how to palm or switch or retain etc a ring then its probably an unnecessary purchase. Alternatively if you believe that there is something here that is beyond such simplistic thinking, whether knowledge of a sleight or a gizmo of some sort, then I may allow myself to be convinced and delve into my moth riddled wallet.
