Father Christmas or Santa

Postby Lady of Mystery » Dec 12th, '07, 15:07

Been having a debate at work over why some people call the big, bearded man Father Christmas and some call him Santa.

So what do you call him and why the difference. It seems to be mostly Londoners who say Santa.

To me, he'll always be Father Christmas...

Oh he's got to be Father Christmas. Santa is for our cousins over the pond surely?

Neither of these.

I am a sour-face who does not celebrate Christmas.

Are there any other grumpy pusses who would rather Christmas was banned?

I call him the Coca-Cola-red, capitalist pigdog...

...But then again I call that Rabbit guy the Judeo-pagan, egg smuggling choco bandit.

Neither. My high anglican upbringing has brought me up to know him as the formal "Saint Nicholas".

I'm joking - about both the high anglican upbringing and the st. nick thing. I call him father christmas, santa just conjurs up images of greedy, sickening American children crying because they "wanna go see San'a".

I voted for Father Christmas. I call him Santa though because it's quicker to say or write. I'm lazy like that :D

I prefer Santa.. I think Santa sounds more German than American (as in Santa CLAUS) and I think I may prefer it because of my Austrian heritage.
