Talk Magic Ambigram

Postby Mahoney » Dec 14th, '07, 18:45

I've been at the ambigrams again and I've come up with this one for Talk Magic!

I quite like how the M/K makes a star, very magicy indeed.

Enjoy!

//N.B. If you don't know what an ambigram is, then basically it should read the same upside down as it does the 'right' way up. This one isn't a classic style ambigram in that there are two words rather than one. So in this case "TALK" reads as "MAGIC" when rotated 180 degrees and vice versa.//

I just worked it out by hand. I start by writing the word "TALK" then I rotate the paper 180 degrees and write "MAGIC" underneath it. Then it's just a matter of seeing what you can get away with. Generally, if an extra bit is required to make one letter look like another, as long as it can either be incorporated into the typeface style or if it goes "backwards" (ie. a backwards "L" would look like an "I" to your eye) then you can get away with it. I think it helps that you say what it's supposed to say before you try and read it, as then you only see the bits the fit and make sense.

This kind of Mucha esque gothic style, definately gives a lot of felxibility in terms of what shapes you can force the letters into.

Oh I also think it's interesting to rotate it and see at what point it changes to the other way round.

That's very cool, I like it. I only clicked on this thread because I wanted to know what "ambigram" meant. :)

Very good Mahoney.

Have you tried the online generator?

http://ambigram.matic.com/

It's very cool. There are a few rules though, have a play around and you'll soon pick them up.
