Yes, I bought one of these many years ago from Davenports (I recall it being much more expensive then than it is now) and was blown away by an in-shop demonstration and HAD to get one.
I still occasionally take it out with me and never has anyone worked it out. When I first bought it, I found it hard to see the 'working' myself at first which does prove that, as mentioned above, it's a T-T type thing where YOU know it's so obvious, but THEY don't!

A nice little effect and a decent self-worker to add to your routine to give yourself a break from sleight-heavy work!

Agreed - some people do think it's obvious, but not many actually figure out how the gimmick works. I think I've only ever had 2 people eventually suss out how it worked - and that was after some very intense scrutiny :? .

If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I was showing this to our Engineering apprentice today, he handled it for 25 minutes while we drove to site and he couldn't work it out:-)

Ive noticed the the people who focus on the needle react better than those who focus on the block.

I never let them examine it for too long. I let them give it the once over and then move onto the next effect.

Okay I missed this discussion the first time around. I too very much like this effect but there is better. It is a clear heavy lucite block in the matchbox. Same effect though. Needle and thread or whathave you penetrate the matchbox and block in the middle and come out the other side. I have not seen the clear one around in a long time. It was on the market just before the brass one came out. I'm pretty sure the reason it is no longer on the market is because it is sleight of hand. Once a handfull of people got word of it nobody would purchase it because you can use any matchbox and any item inside the match box.

What is interesting is if you show the clear one to somebody in the know, (obviously another magician) this blows them out of the water, they spend so much time trying to...well you know. And there is simply nothing to find.
