This is kinda two ideas here so perhaps we can combine elements of both to come up with something not quite as good as either
Firstly, If we could link from someone's name (and / or Avatar) next to posts made by that user to the profile information page for them that could be useful.
And secondly, if you can give people a little more space in the profile page, something like a 150 word block to write something about yourself. You could also have some type of checkbox menu to select what 'types' of magic you are into (i.e. card, coin, stage, close up, mentalism, stage etc). Just a few things to help 'personalise' your account information page like 'favourite quotes' or 'favourite links' stuff like that.
Hmmm, I have a clear idea in my head of what I'm thinking about but don't think that it coming through in what I'm writing! Confound this primitive communication method we have! Mentalists feel free to read my mind and help out here....
