I dont really have anyone to perform my magic to exept family. And all they do is try to figure out how the tricks are done, or not follow instructions. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on getting more spectators, or something

Is there not a local magic club you can join?

If not, are there any other local magicians you can get together with?

must be plenty of volunteers at school, try also old folks homes and local clubs.
finding willing victims is always hard so haveing some self workers like scotch and soda in your arsenal meens you wont be caught out when doing a free gig.

Everywhere you go there's an audience
Work on a couple of tricks that get people's attention and naturally fit in to wherever you are - like the biting coin trick. Here are some uses: You pay for something at the store pretend you're taking out change and bite the coin in half. Look at it restore it and give it to the person at the checkout.
Someone is begging for money - take out a coin, bite it in half, restore it, give it to them etc. I find I immideately have a captive audience.
You'll also find that there are rubber bands lying around on shop counters etc - pick one up and do a trick.
Or - simply when you're paying for something, transfer the money in to your other hand and 'pour' it on to the waiting cashier's hand - only to make it disappear. Look at him/her like "what's the problem?".
Find out what kind of cutlery the local restuarant has and get some. When you're at the resturaunt haul out your cutlery and bend it for the waiter - or to start, put a twist in it and ask the waiter for a new fork/spoon etc
Other than my kid's shows, these are my only audiences. It's great fun and you get to meet lots of people that way too

If your tricks are quick, simple to perform and impressive, doing it in a street will attract attention. Once you have your audience, unleash your more complicated ricks and your longer card tricks. Perhaps even do something with a business card if you have one. Going out at night with a d-lite (or 2) and a whole load of flash paper tricks is always good at attracting an audience, but remember - DONT PLAY WITH FIRE! (especially if you are not of a certain age yet)

Sometimes its hard to perform to family and friends because they feel they know you so well that it gives them a right to figure out how you do an effect. My advice would be to offer your services for free to local old peoples homes. you will have a ready made audience that will only be too pleased to watch your magic. good luck.

Excellent advice. You get to practice with a real audiene, and they get to be entertained.

Ben, an excellent place to showacse your stuff and get feedback would be at Magic Enterprise on Broad Street in Sheffield, near Park Square ROundabout. There are usually several magicians in the shop on saturday afternoons. If you visit make yourself known and show us your stuff. There are quite a few younger guys come into the shop and i think they must find it a bit intimidating, some just come in, buy stuff and leave. Visit and show us your stuff mate, i'll be in this Saturday from 11:30 ish and will probably be there all afternoon.

Big Al, i go there once in a while i am working all this week i am on 12 hr days, unpaid its for school work experience. I have to work saturday but mebe the guy will pay me hes my dads friend and he knows he should not be keeping me all these long hours. Well i may pop down in a cuople of weeks in the summer holidays. I have not done to much magic these past months as i have been focusing on my other hobbie but now i am back learning magic. just yesterday this kid on my estate cam up to me with a rising card deck, and showed me it, so i pulle dmy card out did ambitious card and he freaked so did his dad. they did not know i was a magiican, well i will see you there soon.

Actually you will find that if you actually speak to the magic club in person, many of them will accept membetrs below their minimum age requirements, assuming that the individual is keen enough.

I certainly know that the Ipswich Magical Society do, as we have just taken on very keen young chaps, both below our minimum age, and having now spoken to many of the secretaries at other societies, I know that at least some of them do the same.

My local magic club (bradford magic circle) doesnt like people under 18 in the group, unless you can prove that you are at the same, or a better standard than the older members. I joined the BMC when i was 13, so i think im pretty lucky really!

Whatever you do, dont bother the person whos in charge of taking on new members, because they may get fed up of you and refuse to let you in.

yeah i have spoken to the owner of my local club over net it is based in a pub so i cnt get in but he did say he can feel a juniour magic lcub coming soon. thanks for the advice abut manchester thats abit to far for me now, well imight go down the magic shop saturday and perform some tricks as there is normally a bunch of people there or so people tell me.
