Mind Power Deck or Ultimate Koran Deck?

Postby Replicant » May 10th, '08, 16:56

I don't own either of these decks but I am aware of how they work. I'm interested in people's opinions on which is the more practical deck in the real world. I love the sound of the MPD but the UKD is a quarter of the price so is obviously worthy of consideration, especially as both decks essentially give the same results.

they dont give the same result!

i own both - we talking about the same thing? john kennedy+smoke=mindpower deck yes?

and the koran is the f*****g deck...

both do different jobs as far as I'm concerned

unless I'm missing something or just misremembering what they do - thats highly probable! :D

Yeah, I guess the Koran deck can be used as a f****** deck; but unless I have been seriously misinformed, it can also be used to perform the same effect as the Mind Power Deck, right? That is, spectator thinks of a card from the spread deck, I read his/her mind and tell them the name of the card.

Your language is disgraceful, hehehe! ;)

I love how you can bleep ordinary words and make them seem naughty. What do you think, Replic*nt?

Replicant, you are right. The two decks can be used to perform exactly that effect. The Mindpower Deck has specially printed cards, which is why it's expensive, but it is (sort of) cleaner than the Koran Deck. On the other hand, it's a lot more expensive.

Both decks are fine, both work in a similar way, to produce a similar effect, albeit with slight differences in the mechanics.

Do you want to pay extra for the additional feature?

Do you really want either at all?

Lets use the routine 'smoke ' as an example....
With the Mind Power Deck, you can show that the thought of card has dissapeared (the one that turned into the cigarette). With the Koran deck, you can't.

Which, of itself, might be a bit of a clue for Replicant! Inciedntally, it's ages since I've touched either too.

Lozey, you're quite right, but as I said, is that worth paying all the extra money for? Only Replicant can know (if indeed anyone can).

queen of c***s: For such a regal young lady, I think your language is appalling and I am deeply shocked. Image Wash your mouth out forthwith.... ;)

Part-Timer: Just as I thought; thanks for the clarification.

That is a very good, insightful question for a number of reasons; to answer it, I don't think I'm ready for the Mind Power Deck yet. But I find the effect fascinating and would like to at least try it out and see how I get on with it. For this reason, I think it would be prudent to go with the Koran Deck at this stage. If it then gets consigned to my bottom drawer, at least it won't be as hard a blow on my poor wallet.

No, you're not! ;)

I think I'll just stick with the deck at the moment; I suspect the book would be a little out of my league.

That sounds like a sensible approach. Let us know how you get on with it.

An update for those who care...

I have purchased neither of the decks in the title of this thread. Instead, I got myself a few Bicycle seconds decks from Magicbox and assembled my own Koran-style deck, as described in the routine Trionic which can be found in the excellent Mind, Myth and Magick by T. A. Waters (I still don't think TM members in general give this book the recognition it deserves!) Waters goes into some detail on the interrogative technique for determining the chosen card and it is pure genius.

So there you have it. I've only tried this once so far and it worked quite well; even though I was able to get the card (dropped jaws all round), my pumping technique needs work. I guess further performances will enable me to hone my skills and improve my confidence. This is a cracker and I would highly recommend anyone with an interest in this deck to look up the Waters book. :D
