Casino Magician

Postby goodismyname » May 20th, '08, 02:34

I was just wondering what the average salary would be for a casino magician? Medium sized casino and a 2 year contract. Working 2 hours 3 days a week. How much would you get for a good stage show either salary or per night. Not including tips.

You need to be 18 to enter a casino, so I cant see why they would employ a 13 year old.

Does the client know how old you are?

Maybe it's idle curiosity. after all, it pays to have a goal to aim for.

I thought it was 21 in the USA? It's a while since I was there but in the Las Vegas Casinos the rule was to stay off the carpeted areas otherwise that's classed as the gaming section which is not open to those under 21.

Mandrake, you are absolutely correct. Casinos here in Vegas do not allow anyone under the age of 21...anywhere near the gaming area. Mostly, minors must be accompanied by adults and must keep moving through the gaming section. Security is always around to descend upon any loiterers.

To answer the original question: Most of the Magicians performing here in Vegas are being paid very well. Your act will need to be original, professional and entertaining...even to be considered for booking.

On a side note, since the subject of a contract has been broached, it is illegal in the United States to enter into a contract of any sort with someone under the age of 18. Only a fool would try to make a contract with a 13 year old - so the whole issue of contracts isn't even part of the deal.

Fact of the matter is, though, magicians are a dime a dozen in Las Vegas. If you want to have any chance to compete, then you'd better be in the top 99.99% of the magicians who ply their trade in and around the Vegas area. I'm not suggesting that you aren't a prodigy, but at the age of 13 you had better be the next Lance Burton or David Copperfield if you intend to make a carreer out of being a magician in that area at the age that you are.

That being said, I will fall into lock step with Tomo:

Absolutely! :P

Lol I know that I need to be a little older. I was just curious! Just like Tomo said. :D Even to have a job you at least need to be 16/14 (depending where you live). I was just thinking like when I go to college I might work at a casino to make some money. I know at the local casino they have a bunch of different bands that peform there regulary and I guarentee that you have never heard of them. And also at the local casino they don't have a magician which got me thinking...
Edit-By the way I am nothing close to prodigy.

Several years ago I tried to get my foot in the door with local casinos. I was told (and this was probably flim-flam to get rid of me) that casinos would need an entertainment license to book me and they only have gambling licenses. This is the UK obviously where casinos are all about gambling - none have lounge bands etc.

It also got me thinking - why on earth would the casinos want to let a magician anywhere near their gaming tables?

I did a gig in a casino a few weeks ago - a private party show for the high rollers. Afterwards the manager took me for a tour of the gaming floor (it was the first time I'd set foot in a casino) and we ended up doing chip tricks on one of the roulette layouts.

It was a _very_ strange place.

Take care, Ian

You cannot legally enter a binding contract with a minor in the USA and there are very specific rules and regulations that must be followed when employing a minor. And there are many jobs that you cannot employ a minor to do.

Hmm you can never get a straight answer around here. Anyways...

Blasping_Beard-I'm sure you are.

Themagicwand-I have been in a casino twice. They have other rooms that are not used for gambling. They are used for entertainment and people to relax.

IanKendall-Hmm sounds cool! Wonder what would happen if you made one of those chips disappear?

Bmat-Only a handful of jobs can minors do under 18. Not much for 16-17. Even less for 14-15. The only way for kids under 14 to get paid is under the table.

I'd be very disappointed if I wasn't somewhere in the top 99.99%.
