Need a book which contains specific material - Any help?

Postby oscarno » May 25th, '08, 19:45

I dont know what kind of "genre" of card magic this would be, but I want a book which teaches all those little "magic" extras which make a trick magical.

I find this difficult to explain, so I shall give some examples. Rubadub-Vanish is more or less the kind of stuff that Im looking for (Note this is an example, i dont need that specific move).

The impromptu haunted deck effect is another example, but even the sort of pull-a-signed-selection-out-a-shoe sort of thing will do.

Note I dont want any of those specific examples, but I would love a book which had that sort of stuff in it.

Cheers

I know your not looking for these specifics, but Expert Card Technique has a card to shoe routine, and several other nice miscellaneous routines and sleights!

I really dont need a card-to-shoe at this point :D I wanted nice little "magical" things that you can tie in with your routine to make it special, like Rubadub vanish and Impromptu haunted deck (getting the deck to cut itself). As I said, I am able to do these but I cant find a word to use for these "mini-tricks", and was hoping there'd be a book out there on them.

Expert Card Technique's a good book though  cheers for the help

If your so up to speed with Devils Picture book, why not just use the impromtu haunted deck used in the 3 card routine?

Maybe something on performance, rather than sleights, reveals, etc?

Guys I thought I was clear that I did know both rubadub vanish and impromptu haunted deck. All I needed was something which teaches these SORT of "moves" And Wild Card why are you so persistant that I havent seen the Devil's Picturebook. I dont actually like the impromptu haunted deck, but I like those sort of things, and I know rubadub vanish but I think most magicians do nowadays. And we both agreed that I dont need those specifics.

Cheers sleightly crazy that's what I needed :D , and Darrel - Thanks, I think I'm gonna buy "Strong Magic" sometime soon

So you're looking for heterogeneous conglomerations, right?

Any of the four volume set of Apocalypse will do you very well (Lorayne) as each has around 250 different tricks between the covers. Mostly cards, but also coins, rope, impromptu, etc. You will find quite a few "extras" that you can throw in most any routine - it is expensive, but you'll find it to be money well spent. I could be wrong, but I believe that most magicians like volume 2 the best.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Phoenix is still available on CD. Same as Apocalypse, it contains a massive amount of moves and tricks that can be added into your repertoire to squeeze a bit more magic out of your routine. And, just as with Apocalypse, I highly recommend it.

Mike.

Mike and his big words...

After that article you wrote, you've just been dying to write "Heterogeneous Conglomerations" wherever possible, haven't you...

Andi Gladwin/ Jack Parker's (r.i.p) book "52 Memories" is a fantastic book. It has loads of material - 52 effects/sleights plus all the sleights necessary for each trick. The book itself is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful red hardcover with a soft touch :-). It's a must have :-).

If you are looking for unusual subtlties, moves and card trick endings, look into The Art of Astonishment by Paul Harris. Paul looks at magic with an unusual perspective. He comes up with solutions to problems that the normal magician did not know existed. A very talanted thinker.
