i always have a deck in my pocket, along with about4 packet tricks in my wallet. I nearly always have a cardwarp set up, and if im doing a train journey i do it with the train tickets.

some of the time i have the ID with me and i always have a few bits at work as i can show different people in the hotel!

nice one tom here goes:-

i always carry my training sporen (b*u*m bag) ala stonecold steve austin and the rock ie round the front, so i carry.

haunted key.
sun / moon, a nice gold version of copper silver.
china change.
four halfs, one copper penny, one silver penny.
scotch and soda, set up so that the copper cent has a sticker of a butterfly on it for kids shows.
crazy compass, cheep plastic one well worn and re-silvered arrows.
and a bit of rope for rope tricks and my bussiness cards.

this for the ordinary bloke is a bit over kill and not exactly what you were asking for but i thought it would give some balance to your post and i would also be interested in what amature mages carry too.

Hi

I don’t perform as such, but inevitably someone will mention that I’m a “Magician”, to this end I carry some elastic bands and match sticks. I have also memorised a couple of self working card tricks in case someone has a pack of cards (most of the time the cards are like blankets from use so slights would be out of the question).

The thing about the bands and the matches is that most people can put their hands on these in their house or work so don’t' appear to be gimmicked

I have vowed that I will set aside more time to practice clever stuff (I’ve been doing that for 20 years).

Nice thread

I carry a whole lot of elastic bands - I have about a 5 min routine with elastic bands.
I also carry a coin to bite in half (you know the one..).

Ahh nice thoughts...

My only arsenal is a regular deck of cards, with a shortened keycard in there, and a TT. Usually, I can entertain for ages with this setup.

Sometimes, if I'm feeling bold, I'll keep a one or two-way forcing deck on me too, to compliment the regular deck.

I then just have to hope that people don't mind card tricks, and aren't expecting me to produce a sponge ding-dong from their glass of pina colada.

There's also a ruck of things you can do with the change in your pocket.

Always elastic bands. I never go anywhere without them. They are simply the best for real impromptu magic.

Normally a shoelace size/width piece of cord. very useful for numerous ring on/off string effects, torn and restored macdonalds straw, hunters knot etc.

A deck of cards is always in the car. I don't always carry it around, but it's there in case I am asked, and a borrowed deck isn't present. the deck in the car also is usually set up in BCS - although after a few BCS effects I will happily destroy the stack and use it as a normal deck.

The current item though that I always have on me is die cipher 2. The reactions and impromptuness of this little wonder just makes it a must have. A little bulky for a trouser pocker, but worthwhile. The funnt thing is NO ONE ever queries the need for it. No one ever says, well how about I just think of a number and now you do it...

I also have a self folding bill in my wallet, but to be honest I haven't done that for ages - I never seem to remember that it is actually there.

I used to always carry the prediction sheet for Simon Aronson's "Shuffle Bored", but now I go the Aldo Colombini route with that and just use a written predicition.

The stealth Wallet is usually (not always) carried, complete with business cards. As this is so useful for pleasing the impromptu "show me a trick" johnnies. I also carry in the stealth wallet a few prepared business cards for various "out to lunch" tricks.

Oh, and in the stealth wallet is a crib sheet I need for a really nice magic square routine... (one day I'll just memorise the damn numbers).

And having just checked, I still have two preset coin thru rubber sheet penetrations in my main wallet. These have been there for months now, and believe it or not they are both still set beautifully. I would have thought that unlikely but it is true. Again though I forgot they were even there...

Careful...best to check that the rubber hasn't suffered from "memory effect" having been set so long

That's an extremely good point. I'll unset them. To be honest they weren't left there particularly for anytime anyplace magic, they were set for a specific night out and I totally forgot about them. I'll probaly leave the sheets in the wallet though, as they are fairly easy to reset if neeeded...

thanks.

I'm with Seige, a normal deck with a short card (though I tend to use an end shortened rather than corner shoertened one). That is just for everyday use, but if I know I am going into a social type situarion I will bung a TT in my pocket set up for a money morph type of thing annd a couple of rubber bands, then if I have cargo trousers with big pockets a svengali and ID. I very rarely take packet tricks out unless I know for sure that I will be required to do a lengthy set.

To be honest it is usually only the cards that come out anyway!

then if I have cargo trousers with big pockets

A definite must. If I wanted I could probably get 5 decks of cards in each knee pocket without looking too bulky. Not that I would you understand, but its certainly gives you room to be loaded to the hilt.

And that leaves the trouser pockets free for a few more decks if you were that way inlcines.

Where would I be without my Cargo trousers...
(Probably locked up for exposing myself..)

5 decks of cards in each knee pocket
Seeing you walk would be a neat effect in itself :D
Oh - I used to carry reality twister (I know - not everyone's cup of tea - but it worked for me)
This morning I emptied my pockets and it had somehow folded in half  - so now there's one less thing in my pocket. I also carried around my stealth pen, but it started leaking.

I used to also carry around a couple of forks and spoons - but getting through metal detecters was - well - interesting. I also sounded like I was a walking tambourine or something..

So - I think rubber bands are the safest..

On the cargo trousers front, I usually wear these whatever the weather or occasion so I am always ready to quickly dump stuff in the pockets. I keep all my most used stuff in a small metal briefcase so I can just open it up and dump stuff in my pockets without having to rummage throught the huge chest in the corner of my room that contains everything else.
