It sounds very similar to an effect in Corinda's 13 steps, called Dr. Thornton's "Coincimental"

It also sounds similar to an effect called, "Alpha Mind"

I don't have Alpha-Mind, but I have heard that although the method is very clever, it is also unforgiving, and you would likely make an error maybe 20% of the time. I can't tell you more because I just don't know.

Just out of interest, I believe that the effect you are refering to is actually by Ed Mellon.

I re-read Coincimental last night (from 13 steps) and it would appear that it is actually the Ed Mellon effect. :)
