The Mentalist...

Postby B0bbY_CaT » Aug 13th, '08, 13:58

New TV show (at least new to me in AUS). Starts after Olympics, seems interesting, you can read a little about it at the links below, anyone have any more detail?

Begs the question... is the astute intuitive mentalist the "perfect" detective?

Perhaps the "character" Sherlock Holmes was an example of this?

I know one thing. He's the perfect wedding entertainer.

I think I'll just hang on for the Jonathan Creek special.

For a minute, I thought this was about Gerry McCambridge's series (same title). Oddly enough, I think his premise was that he learned to detect lies and other 'tells' from his police detective father. Never saw the series, mind you, just read about it!

He's a P.I. ... the show is like a serious version to PSYCH.

I really don't see it lasting beyond a season. The star of the show has been featured in three shows how that had promise but sank, knowing horrid & mysterious deaths. I don't see why this one will prove any different... especially when they start getting nasty notes from us when it comes to exposure issues... .and there will be more than a few, there would have to be given the character's image and the idea of being "smarter" than the rest of the planet.

A programme in the UK called "The Mentalist" would be about an over-weight man in a scruffy anorak and trousers that stopped an inch above his ankles, with rope for a belt, staggering around the centre of town with a half empty bottle of cheap cider, shouting rude words at office girls as they hurried past desperately trying to look the other way.

The English language eh? Tsk.

I think this more than any other reason led to the development of phrases such as "Mind Magician". You just can't go around the UK calling yourself a mentalist. Honestly. You'd get arrested.
