Hey Gang -

I'm looking for the strongest "Signed Card to Pocket" effect I can find. Any thoughts? The version on the Paul Harris DVD "Art of Astonishment" looks interesting, but seems overly complicated and may set off spectator alarms.

I'd love to hear any opinions!

On the first Scams and Fantasys DVD by Darwin Ortiz, he does a signed card to pocket that has a wild west theme, gun slinger type thing which has brilliant misdirection for the placement etc etc.

I've been hearing lots of good things about Rob Bromley and Peter Nardi's "The Extractor". You can find it on Alakazam. The demo video I saw shows a great signed card to pocket. It looks very clean and fair. I don't own one of these utilty devices yet, but according to some other threads about it on this site, you can use it to perform all manner of card vanishes, appearences, transpositions etc.

The device is a bit pricey, but each one is painstakingly hand made - and if it has Rob Bromley's name on it, you can pretty much be sure that it's excellent craftsmanship too! I shall be ordering mine at the end of the month, as this will certainly pay for itself after a few close-up gigs no doubt.

Yep, i'd second the Extractor as a utility device that can be used to perform extraordinary effects & can also be used as a tool to practice p*l*ing. It is a bit pricey for a none profit maker though but CAN be used for many effects.

Extractor is a very good utility item, you won't regret buying this. You can do a number of killer routines with it.

Having never done a card to pocket before, but after reading reviews for the extractor I decided I should give it a try.

Not only do I do card to pocket, but card to shoe, card to envelope, card to.... the list goes on. Really great item, a bit pricey but worth every penny!

Also improved upon the card to shoe slightly, very small thing but has made a big difference, in the reactions i get.

I do a card to pocket very similar to the roiutine shown by Greg Wilson on his 'In Action - Vol 1' video!

The responses i have received during my stand up walk around practice stints in local pubs have been quite simply awesome!

The extractor is the best way to go....no question. I used it for a show i did with the BBC it's on tomorrow (tuesday at 10pm on channel 992) It's not a plug as such but a way of seeing what the device is capable of.

Also Party animal by Matthew J dowden has a great routine for card to pocket using just sleight of hand.

It's good to have both versions in your arsenal so that you can perform this lovely effect in any situation.

I haven't got the extractor but would have if I could afford it - a great closer as it finishes with the deck of cards going back into a box and the box going into your pocket.

That said, there are some great Card to Pocket routines out there, Matthew Dowden's stuff is always refreshingly workable and fun.

For a novel approach on the idea, try Dave Williamson's deck to pocket which is easy, cheeky and really good fun. I do this frequently and it always goes down a storm.

i often folow card to pocket with deck to pocket, leaving the card in my hand. It's great fun to do and i've not met a spec yet who doesn't enjoy it.

I also do a similar routine. I am currently learning Jerry Sadowitz's "The Card That Doesn't Go To Pocket" routine where the card appears in your pocket and then the rest of the deck is found spread out between four different pockets with the selection remaining in your hand.

Im no sleight geek, far from it, but id say that teh best way to do card to pocket is using sleights.You only have to control it to the top or bottom,

( my preference is bottom, but only because i havnt been in the inuendo thread for about a week )

Dale, the cleanest way is using the Extractor, no arguement. I was just suggesting that with the gimmick it's flawless but not always practical. In most cases sleight of hand with a normal deck is fine and it's the method i use most of the time, hence some references to that too. Yes it's easy to do but routining the whole thing is why i suggested MJD.

Richard, I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but as Dale says, surely the best way to do this simple trick is to use a basic sleight ? Once mastered, you can then do the trick anytime anywhere, with your deck, or with a borrowed one. And many other effects as well. Why is it cleaner to use a gimmick ?

Unless you don't want to learn the p**m ?

Richard, having looked further at your posts unfortunately I don't seem to have channel 992 otherwise I would have watched to see if I could see where you were coming from.
