Hello, I'm also new!

Hi, I'm Paul Collins.

I think that I am beyond being an amateur magician, because a lot of my own tricks have created reactions that hardly seem amateurish. The first magic trick I bought was in Las Vegas in 2005 - the levitating card trick, which got me interested in this skill. However, since then, I've been interested more in the skills of Derren Brown - such as "mind-reading" skills and less visual stunts.

I have my own blog, www.paulcollinsmagic.blogspot.com, which shows some of Brown's techniques as well as my own tricks. One of my own tricks is the Clothes Prediction, which, if you do visit my blog, I recommend you read to give yourself a flavour of my kind of magic.

Hello and welcome...................
Not sure on the blog link - might be considered exposure of someone elses work?

So if you dont consider your self a amature are you a working pro?

Most of those tricks are my own, or developments of well-known tricks. The Derren Brown tricks are posted all over youtube, and also he gives away a lot of his secrets in his book and on the internet - partly because he says that he is more interested in human psychology than magic.

No, I'm 17, so not a working pro. I guess I'm probably intermediate standard - but what I meant by not being amateur is that a lot of the stuff on the blog is what I consider to be more "professional" than amateur tricks.

Hello.

The blog has been removed. Have you changed your opinion?

Can I just say that when DB tells his secrets in his books, he doesn't tell all of it and the books aren't widely available. They're intended for magicians only. Im sure he's just as unhappy as the rest of us if youtube users decide to expose his tricks, but im also sure many of them probably have it wrong anyway. Also, even if they are 200 years old, they are still protected only for dedicated people to see.

And with that, if you have decided to stay with us, then welcome.

yes, many of his books are very hard to obtain (I haven't tried, though), but one of his books "Tricks of the Mind" is extremely easy to find, and reveals a lot of secrets in great detail. The p system that was explained in my blog before I took it down was one of them, and I used that in a lot of the tricks explained.

the youtube viewers are quite often clearly wrong, but there are postings of DB revealing the secrets after a trick - although these are his more 'basic' effects, if you like.
