You can get around that if you don't mind watching DVDs on your PC monitor - or hooking your PC up to your TV. Get a programme called VLC Media Player and it will override the region coding of any DVD.

But where's the fun in that? :D

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Even if turns out to be the biggest pile of c*** (not the best) going and you end up using the disc as a coaster, it will be a quid well spent.

Somebody already mentioned Paul Daniels, but there is a relatively new DVD of his Live audience show that I think was filmed around 2003.

Available from Alakazam.

In case anyone was wondering, Mystifier is just Street Magic and Magic Man back to back.

Thanks Wild Card  Lenoir, I'll have a look for that one. Normal retailers don't have any of his stuff but I imagine magic shops should have a few. Alakazam you say.

Then it's off to Alakazam I go.

Magic Dvds

Postby Allen Tipton » Sep 12th, '08, 14:23

:D And don't forget the wonderful work of Doug Henning; even if you have to buy just the Broadway musical, The Magic Show.
His TV Specials helped to pave the way for Magic's re entry in the Popularity Stakes in the mid 70's.They are around
Illusions, Close Ups, Outdoor stuff.
None of what Dante called 'Piffle' which is what is getting the norm these days.

Let's get back to Stage & Cabaret & Stand Up.

Then there's John Calvert's 'Tribute To Houdini' A Magic Spectacular. Not too much about Mr. H but more the JC Stage Show Classics.

And there's the Fred Kaps dvd as well.

Check out Todd Kar's The Miracle Factory in USA. The dvds all arrive very quickly and all play here in the UK.
Recently I've had

Lee Grabel( 4 discs) He was to have been Dante's successotr. See his Floating Piano with female player.

You Asked For It. 4 discs showing magicians who appeared on USA TV in the 50's in a programme called, of course, You Asked For it. Here you will see an ageing Dante,, Kuda Bux, Frakson, Jack Kodell, Irby, Jim Conley, Think A Drink Hoffman, Arthur Buckley and even Bela Lugosi amongst many others.

Mystic Craig's Camera featuring lectures by Edward Victor, UF Grant, there's Dunniunger and Kalanag in colour etc.

Ring Keith Bennett in Birmingham and ask if he can get you Abbotts Conventions 1992/3 & 94. Mine came last year on video at about £15 for all three. Brilliant magic on these.
That will start you off.

Find out who has The Best Of Magic Series. ( TV)

Get in touch with magicians who may have recorded the old TV shows. Ask them.

There is a way of reprogramming your dvd player to cover Universal but I am not a Tech Guy. A magician friend did it for all our 3 players.
