Opinion on story patter (Cards)

Postby Relish » Sep 9th, '08, 20:25

Im thinking of a routine and wondered if there was anything similar out there (and if not i'd like some opinions, please!).

Here goes:

I hold the deck face up in the left hand as if for the Hindu Shuffle. I then patter about the deck of cards being like a book and turn some of the cards along the long edge as if they are pages of a book. I find a king as the hero, a jack as the villain and a queen as the love interest, insert these into the pack and shuffle explaining they get spread amonst the story.

I then explain that a good book can have 4 stories running at the same time and find the 4 aces to represent these, these are put into different places in the 'book' and shuffled as the stories intertwine.

Then there comes the 'twist' where another villian is entered into the middle of the deck / story.

I then say that to be honest i sometimes cheat and skip straight to the end of the story to check all the stories come together (and the 4 aces are found) and to check theres a showdown between the villain and hero (and the Ace and King are also found at the end)

As a kicker you point out that the love interest didnt make it and is found next to the second villain, lying face down.

The End

Its not complicated to do but i think it might be a bit different (but then my knowledge of card history is a bit brief)

any help is muchly appreciated.

:D

Well, no one had responded, and I'm not a cardie - but I do like the premise.

Good luck with it, let us all know if you get a video of it up.

As far as stories go, it's nice.

The reason you might not have got a lot of response is because people expect the subject "fao cardies" to be news, events or a information for cardies, not "do you like my trick?".

Maybe a subject like "opinion on story patter" would be better since it's not just cardies that can help.

Perhaps its just me and my short attention span, but there seems to be a lot of elements here so it may be confusing to follow. I won't know till I see the effect performed. But overall is sounds good to me.

I'll edit this to be more specific in what I'm talking about. You start out with three cards, then add four more, then one more. Not sure why you want to add the four aces. You can simply state that a book can have more then one story line....now that I'm typing this I realize even more that I'd have to see this to comment. It is probably fine the way you have it laid out.

sorry about the uselss reply.

thanks for the replies

(title chnaged now, thanks Marvell)

fao bmat, i just thought that for one more 'move', it would be more impressive to get six cards to the end rather than just two.

I'll try both and practice them and stick a vid up when its done

it sounds like a good effect to me! Hope you get it worked out.

The only one I have seen is the Cinderella deck. It is a little more in depth though. Check it out
