Postby Chris » Sep 8th, '08, 13:59

Hello folks

I was just looking at school for scoundrels website at one...If someone could PM me if they use this as I have a few questions...cheers

or I cud just hint what I wanted to know, as its not really exposure I dont think? Does the dice stack require skill or is more of a gimmiced effect?

Dice stacking is a skill, yes there are gimmicked dice but they are usually for big suprise endings for routines and really doesn't play into actual dice stacking. For beginning I would recommend Vagas style dice, perfectly square and a great size. As for a cup, anything without a ledge straight sides and smooth inside is nice. You can use a pringles can just cut the lip off and while at it cut your first one down to an easy to handle size. I use a complete can because you can stack a lot of die but to start I would use something smaller.

Zack Stacks is a wonderful book it is the book I used to learn with. I can stack quite high now and I can do things like use different coloured dice and once stack I can unstack in the order a spectator wants. Say I have a red in the middle of a stack, I can knock out that middle die and leave the rest stacked. The amount of dice you can stack depends on the depth of your cup. Ideally you want half a die's space left, in other words if you want to stack 5 dice you need a cup that will hold five and a half dice.

This is very much a skill much like juggling. Of course it is nice to be able to do effects with the dice as well, I use two in the hand one in the pocket. or a die and cup routine.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Let me know if you have questions. We make the best dice stacking cups in the world in Leather and Wood. The SchoolForScoundrels sells our cups as well. The wooden ones.

All our dice stackig cups can also be chop cups as well. The wooden cups ARE all chop cups and come with balls.

I like the Todd Strong DVD the best and his book is good too.
John Mendoza has a nice routine.

I would also suggest you check out a couple dice do-dahs:

1. paul gertner's "triple die lemma" from his steel and silver book or DVD
2. world's greatest magic DVD on "dice". great DVD with lots of great routines from dice stacking, to sacks dice trick, daryl's chink-a-chink with 4 dice, etc. Just a great bargain.

Questions? Let me know.

dice stacking requires skill but it's just a knack that is easily developed in a couple of hours practice. after that it's just getting it smooth and effortless looking. stacking looks much harder than it is.

last night at the club we had a demonstration on dice stacking and this guy did 27 dice one on top of the other, a world record.

You don't need any specilist cups, tupperware is fine to start with and you can even use oxo cubes.

It's really impressive to watch actually and very timly given your question

Took me twenty minutes...of on and off practice in my lunch break?

Y u ask?

Ive pretty much got two down everytime, I just sometimes mess and knock them off when lifting the cup...but id say 85% im hitting two easy...3 is a challenge, I can do it but not everytime, Im trying to get the feel for the motion and its very unatural lol

I learnt to dice stack from Todd strong. It's remarkably easy when you know how. It's not something I do when I work but it's very satisfying, kinda like juggling. The more basic cup the better and don't go for the one's with the ribs on the inside.

That black vinyl dice cup should NOT be sold as a dice stacking cup.
They are made by kaplow games and are felt lined. Certainly not for stacking dice.

That's probably the reason you're only able to stack 3 dice.
You should get a better cup. Smooth interior of plastic or leather.

I'm not saying you won't eventually be able to stack 4 dice with it but it is much more difficult to do plus any deluxe moves with the cup would be virtually impossible.

It's not a dice stacking cup and should not be sold as one.

And neither is the other clunky cup on their website.
The JimZ cup on their website IS a dice stacking up.

just an FYI
