John Kennedy's Flight Deck

Postby mrmagic » Oct 13th, '04, 22:07

The Effect

OK here is what the advertising blurb says:

Cover any glass with a deck of cards. Toss a coin toward the glass - it disappears and visually materializes with a loud clink inside the glass!

Repeat it as often as you like. You can even let a spectator hold the glass when the coin appears! It looks impossible because you’re nowhere near the glass!

Flight deck works with practically any type of coin (even foreign coins), and any cup or glass.

The precision gimmick converts your own brand of playing cards into an instant “Flight Deck.” Slide the deck into its box and you’re ready to go. By the way, there are no holes in the box whatsoever!

No sleight-of-hand is needed because Flight Deck vanishes the coin for you and makes it reappear inside the glass automatically!

You will literally be using Flight Deck in less than two minutes! Just pop the companion CD into your computer and watch John teach this astonishing routine.

“As far as I can tell this is the coolest ‘no touchies’ coins to glass ever devised.”
PAUL HARRIS

“I really like this thing - it’s so clean. And it opens up so many possibilities!”
DAVID ROTH

“Having run my own magic store for ten years, I saw literally thousands of tricks. None of them compare to Flight Deck. It's simply breathtaking. And, it must be the easiest trick I've ever laid my hands on - I mean, I just can't believe how brilliant the design is!”
CHRIS SMITH - Magic Smith

“In my estimation, Flight Deck is the most brilliant Kennedy creation to date. And if you know John’s work, that's saying a lot.”
GREGORY WILSON

“I purchased my Kennedy Flight Deck knowing that it would be a quality item. The product exceeded my expectations! Here is a great item that will definitely go into my performing repertoire.”
PAUL GREEN

“This surpassed my highest expectations. The method is brilliant and a true joy to work with. It's as much fun to do as it is to watch. It simply kills when the coin visibly drops into the clear glass while the spectator holds it. Worth every penny to the serious performer and working magician.”
TIM TRONO

Cost

$298.00

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I will give this trick a difficulty between 1 and 3

Review

WOW WOW WOW!!! Is all I can say about this trick at the moment!!! But hey OK I will try and give a full review!!! This trick is awsome especially if like me your not a huge coin worker but want to add a real STRONG piece of coin magic to your act and I really do mean A STRONG COIN TRICK!!! I recieved this trick the other day and after watching the video demo on Mr Kennedy's web site I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this. Although slightly worried at first what I would actually recieve for the hefty price tag on this gem I took the gamble and was in fact very satisfied (yes satisfied quite rare these days) with what I got, and I must say a James Bond gadget at that. Also you recieve a cd which includes a 9 minute mpeg movie of how to perform the effect all that said this trick is so easy to perfrom you will have it down in two minutes "yes really in two minutes" Although I have rated the difficulty between 1 to 3 for this trick I only put 3 as for some VERY basic sleights are used and if you can pull off a french drop etc... you have all the sleights down (and that's all I will say about the moves) after that the trick is almost totally self working due to the amazing work of the gimmick. I do really predict (Derren Brown Stylie) this to become a close-up classic due to it's ease and visual manner it really does leave you with lots of free time to work on presatation and not them knuckle busting coin moves!!! There are four highly visual phases to the routine included all building up to a HUGE CLIMAX where the the effect actually happens in the specs hands (what more could you want???) As you can tell I am already a huge fan of this effect although not a die hard fan of John Kennedy's stuff in the past this really is a master piece. This is my first review on this board so I will stop here b4 I bore you all with my love of this effect. I would though love to hear if any of you have this trick your thoughts and how you present it etc...???

Overall

Yes the price tag is hefty But in some ways Im glad as I know many magicians will be put off by this and it means not every TOM's, D***s , and Harrys are out there performing this one!!! (no offence to any Tom's and Harry's out there!!!) All I can say is if your serious about magic you will not be disappointed with this purchase it will become the highlight of your close-up act!!! Well worth every penny!!!

9 out of 10 a 9 because I guess it could always be a little cheaper couldn't any magic trick.

Thanks for the review - almost $300 is serious wonga so I guess it's really intended for the working pro who can recover the cost over a period of time. No reason why the amateur with cash shouldn't buy one though!

Nice review, and very brave of you to actually buy it without seeing it performed/demmed anywhere. I mean it's one thing to get stuck with a turkey for £15, but $300? that's got to hurt.

I'm glad it is what you were expecting, and thanks for sharing the review with us.

Yeah I have to say this does look a very powerful effect and I'm surprised to hear it's so easy to perform. Good review, can't justify it it right now but it's certainly one to bear in mind.

One question Mrmagic, what is the set up like?

Bob Swadling came out with a simlar item a while ago. It was pricy, but not that pricy.
In fact, should anyone have a copy of the documentry made about the life and times of our own Fay Presto, bob is demming it to her.
I believe few were made.
However, I bought something that did this years and years ago, for around a fiver. There was a lot of faffing around, but it did work.
Collectors workshop also have a version, at collectors workshop prices, naturaly.

Im not even sure what C.U.P.S means Mrdiscoman but I think mine where working overtime too whilst waiting to recieve this in the post!!! ha ha!!! I believe Alakazam may sell this but not 100% sure if not try Malcom at Top Secret Magic www.topsecretmagic.co.uk he is the President at my local Magic Circle and is a very nice guy!!!

To answer your question Happy Toad the set up is a breeze and also the reset is almost instant I would say 1 second tops!!!

I realise there is many ways of doing this the proper sleight of hand way even maybe including a 3 fly kinda routine but this really is the James Bond Method for the lazy coin workers out there (including myself) Not that I have a problem with sleights I do think though it would be almost impossible  to do the last phase in the specs hands as clean via the sleight methods!!!

Thanks for all the positive feedback I hope to add some more reviews in the near future so keep an eye out!!! I was hoping I maybe able to ask here how I can obtain access to the Restricted Area as I think I may have alot to contribute??? Any ideas???

Here is a link to the demo if anyone is interested:

I don't think we should be fishing here as to how it works. We've read the review and seen the clip of what it can do, I feel that we have enough info now to make up our minds if we want one.

well I guess we want one, I mean if we want one enough...

Cheers MrMagic.

I'll leave a Mod to address your access question in full but basically you need to have been on the board some time with good contributions before gaining access. Stick around and I'm sure you will be in there.
