Magician's Clothes

Postby TylerMason » Nov 10th, '08, 16:45

A somewhat strange request for information - I need to know where to get some clothes!

"Try a clothes shop!" - I hear you all thinking.....

Sadly, it's not that simple im afraid. I have been asked to perform magic at a themed event. Normally i'd just wear some of my formal attire, but the "theme" for this event is a historical orientated party.

I could do with attending in costume to keep up with the 'english period' atmosphere that will be going on. I'm thinking along the lines of a 'Victorian' outfit. Top hat & tails, waistcoat with fob watch, walking cane and coat cloak etc, etc.

I have tried the obvious search engines but keep getting links to sites that rent cheap looking costumes you'd probably expect to see being worn on some tacky stag night or at a cheesy fancy dress party.

I need something that will look pretty authentic. Something that would look similar to a costume from "The Presteige" or "The Illusionist" (if anyone has seen those films?)

Any advice, ideas or suggestions would be most apreciated. Many thanks.

Tyler.

Failing that, how about ordinary black trousers. no turnups, a white shirt and a waistcoat. If you can get a dress shirt with the winged collars (try Tesco's £10 each or 2 for £15 complete with black tie  !) it will look more Victorian. Add a watch chain (or other suitable chain) from one pocket to another via the button hole and it'll look well on the way to being the right kind of period costume. If you can get (or grow!) mutton chop sideburns and a moustache it will be even more convincing.

That's a great tip too - I didn't think of that. Just when I thought I could do with a shave....I think i'll go for some heavy duty victorian sideburns now. Alvin Stardust would be proud!

Saw him last Christmas in concert - he still has the energy he had way back when he was Shane Fenton!

Fair play to him. Good to hear he hasn't lost it then. I still can't get the image the Green Cross Code advert out my head.

Ebay - has virtually everything - if it doesn't it has some pretty good sponsored links at the bottom of the page.
