Part of my teaching is on the philosophy of science and political science methodology, where we examine the nature of evidence, the derivation and testing of hypotheses, and building general theories of individual and group behaviour, all of which are directly applicable to the study of magic and performance. A large strand of empirical theory looks at the cultural and social construction of reality and the use of language and rhetoric, again much of which has direct applicability to magic. The 'magician' is socially constructed, and if one looks at the all the posts here, we see different identities, interests, attributes, etc. that play themselves out in different ways.

My magical work is currently bringing these and many other ideas to bear on magical effects, rotuines, and scripts, while in my academic work I am exploring the ways in which magic offers a good metaphor for thinking differently about politics and human behaviour.
