The dreaded Heckler!

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I'd reinforce a couple of points above. Family/friends/workmates will be your toughest audience a lot of the time and so use them in that way to iron out the wrinkles in your tricks. If they see a palm I want to know about it so I can practice more or change the angles appropriately. On the other hand if a trick blows them away then it builds your confidence, try "Out of this world" and see the reaction!

Generally I find the best response comes with strangers, especially in a relaxed social environment (pub, club, party, etc) - as long as it's not so loud they can't hear your patter!

So I use people I know as "rehearsal" and strangers as "the gig".

While he is heckling, cut him off, and say with a grin on your face...

Welcome to my show! there are 2 rules to watching my show.
Rule 1. This is my show and you do what I say.
Rule 2. If you dont wanna do what I say, then get your own show.

Trust me, I personally use this. It works. Just use this so that it sounds jokingly

I don't think I could carry that off in my neighbourhood. But I'm not SA :)
