'Playing Tricks' on FTN (Freeview Channel)

Postby maRk tHE mAGicK » Dec 10th, '04, 01:59

Hi all

I've just finished watching a program on FreeView on the FTN channel called 'Playing Tricks'

For those who havent seen it, there are some new faces in magic, doing street magic, but acting to people, and not really saying 'heres a trick look at me! ' Just doing it as though its ordinary. Some simpler working tricks and stuff like coin into bottle tricks included in the show.

Anyway, the particular effect I liked, is a man is doing an experiment of 'mind over matter' he gets 5 people lined up with one of them being an undercover performer, and says that if you believe you can, you can lean forward without moving your feet apart. The laymen try, but cant go very far without stumbling. The fifth then has a go, and leans reeeeally far forward, his body is vertical like a slash / but further, and he's like 'I dont know how I did it dude, just closed my eyes like... and done it'

He then gets a reaction and walks away

I would love some information on the name of this trick, and where I can get it / learn how to do it, or just if anyone else has seen it, I have an idea on how it might be done but its probably not

Mark :)

I saw this too and agree, it did look cool and it was performed in the open so looked totally impromptu.

I've seen a few of these and they're also repeated on Trouble TV (cable) if you can get this. It's ALL young, up and coming magician's.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

It's called The Lean, and it's not cheap. Doug Malloy (I think) sells it - you send him a pair of shoes and he customises them for you.

I seem to remember it was about 400 dollars about ten years ago.

Take care, Ian

The trick you are looking for is The Lean but it is a little pricey.
$650 is a lot for one effect !
