Postby Tapion1ives » Jan 19th, '09, 13:39

Ive finally started branching out from card and coin tricks.
I bought some magicans wax. I need to stick some to my ear for a trick I'm sure you all know, and it wont
in fact I feel like its really hard to use.

Essentially Ive been minding my own beeswax for too long an cant seem to easily use this stuff

any advice.

(i cant resist a pun)

it has to be warmed up before use.
but i have a feeling that pure bees wax wont stick to the ear, because that skin is always oily

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Hi Tapion1ives;

I bought some wax for a card trick which requires such sticky substance,
I'm sure you know which trick I mean. I got it from Michael Ammar's. It comes in a small pot and the texture of it is something in between hard and soft wax if that makes any sense: you remove a dash with a coin, and warm it up in your fingers to soften it.

I keep a little dot of it behind my ear ready for use. It sticks well and remains soft because the dot is fairly small and in contact with the skin.

Quick look at a UK shop from one of the forum members (Seige) shows something similar, and also much cheaper than Ammar's wax. Looks like it comes in 3 consistencies: hard/medium/soft:

And for the price, you probably can't go wrong.

That should also work with IT if that's what you need. Alternatively you could use a tiny piece of clear sellotape, works well too if you intend to use it as I think.

Cheers
LP.

Also check out the glue dots sold at craft shops, they're a bit like removable glue used to hold credit and bank cards to the paper when they send out new ones, can stick to the skin better than wax and are sometimes used to hold a 'writer' in place. I'm referring to the ones which are about the same diameter as the eraser on the end of a pencil rather than the very tiny ones which are OK for craft but not so good for crafty magic  !

Never thought of using those before for such purposes. Good thinking there. Cheers mandrake

Mrs.M is into card making and all that stuff so we tend to visit places like Hobbycraft quite often. Lots of stuff there for the magish as well so I don't complain too loudly  !

I have a hobbycraft next to my local staples and spend most of my day flitting between the two.

Those papier mache hollow books look great when painted and distressed to look like old books - great for storing props for things like From Hell, White Star and other old time effects!

Hmmm... Work with it a little and It should get more sticky... I believe i know what trick you are trying to do and i would recommend that if the wax doesnt work you can use tape as long as u cant see it... But Im not 100% sure of what trick you are doing
