ESP Cards, where to buy & Gaffs

Postby Johnny Bravo » Feb 1st, '05, 19:03

I bought a packet of esp cards & 5 eps gaffs from card4magic recently.

I was somewhat annoyed to find that the gaffs don't match the normal esp cards. The gaffs are printed with thicker lines & this has been pointed out to me on a few occasions when doing a trick with the cards.

I mentioned this to card4magic & asked for some gaffs that match or to replace he esp set but was told that as they get their esp cards come from several different printers it is hard to match them up.
That's a bit bad I think. Actually it's a lot bad. :(
Of course you need your gaffs to tie in with your basic set of cards.

Anyway does anyone know where I can get some matching esp & ds gaff cards? Mucho Appreciated

You could get some spare ESP cards, then make your own gaffs. It would mean mastering card splitting, but I must admit I didn't find the technique too difficult. Finding the right glue is more of a challenge (although I understand someone's just started stocking a suitable glue from the USA).

Alternatively, try buying a pack of Piatnik ESP cards. You get loads of extra cards, plus the ESP symbols in five colours. The back design makes them look just like playing cards, but maybe that won't bother you.

Aquarius Magic now stock bottles of Rubber Cement imported from the USA (£5 a bottle). This glue is the best I have found (so far) for using with cards

Thanks for the suggestions guys, however I bought Beyond ESP 2 last night so hopefully this will solve my problems, I'll post a review on it when I have it. :D

For full details of how to prepare your own marked ESP Deck using a very old and reliable system, have a look at http://www.allmagic.com/magicshow/cards/esd.html . There's nothing new under the sun, just new ways of using old ideas!

hmmm...that gives me an idea...using this same marking system the following effect can be created....

now the best patter but it'll do...

the magician claims the cards talk to him and each card has its own distinct sytle...and even though they all appear to be the same on the outside (shoes the backs of the cards) they really arent... (shows the fronts)...but most of all the red cards talk to him much more differently than the black cards...but other than that hes still learning the language and isnt able to tell which card is which except if it is red or black...and so he passes around the deck to be shuffled...upon its return he simple holds the deck square in mechanics grip face down so there is no way he can see the cards....he then goes ahead to pull the top card off the pack and quickly name it as red or black and then he flips over the card to prove its colour...he then repeats the process several times over but rather fast...yet every single time he is right...

the workings....
create a mark by poking a needle through the upper left corner of all the black cards where the pip is located...this way when you reach over to grab a card from mechanics grip..simply feel for the irregularity in the card...if you feel its black...if you dont then its red....

If this system is used in conjunction with regular Bikes, the title of the effect just has to be 'Charlier's Angels'!
