Playing cards with my name on them

Postby Famuus » May 7th, '09, 20:27

hy

I want to get started on doing gigs 'n stuff. I was thinking of making these costum playing cards that have my stuff on the back so people can book me. I could do magic with these things and give the 'selectet' card as a gift.

Is there anybody who uses this, or isn't this a good idea cause the lack of qualitie of these cards.???

Greetings from Belgium.

Some of the more experienced members of TM could probably give you good advice about this. But if you're just starting out, it will work out a lot cheaper to get business cards printed up. I think customised playing cards are quite expensive unless you order in serious bulk.

spend the money on a decent business card instead...or just write your details with a sharpie - your name and email and give it to them...

You can get custom packs of Bikes made but I think when you consider the cost it would probably just make sense to use regular Bikes and carry business cards.

This is a good site for business cards, in case you didn't know about it. You could probably make these look like playing cards with a bit of research, they offer a lot of made-to-order options. If you were intent on getting your business card on the table before you walk away, perhaps a simple transformation effect as a set closer is a more effective way of getting your card into people's hands than printing entire decks of custom cards and handing them out after each set.

Also, from a magical perspective, I would be hesitant to use cards with customized backs - I think irregularities like that probably put unnecessary heat on the deck, especially for the first few minutes while people try and figure out A) what it says and B) whether they're marked or not. That's just my opinion though.

plus, you'd end up with a lot of spares if you think about it...you'd need a new deck each table if you were doing walkaround...

try 123print.co.uk if you're in the UK (or even if you're not)...cheap, quick delivery, 4 quid for a hundred with your own custom colour front...and all done online too obviously...

Business cards all the way.

Make them interesting though, as in, make an effect out of them.

Daryl has a nice business card effect which uses business cards with playing cards printed on the back. 21st Century Phantom is also good for promotional purposes too.

Definately go for business cards and if you glue a business card to the back of the card box then when they start to get grubby you can give the deck away as a souvineer

Most printshops do stickers - look for places that do them for bands, musicians have even less money than we do.

Yeah, not a day goes by that I don't wish I was 17 again, lugging a bass amp and bass guitar around the city playing in dreadful bands. Magic's a much easier gig to travel with, and you're less likely to have bottles thrown at you (unless you're exceptionally dreadful).

Indeed, why spend 20$ on a deck that has your logo, name, address, ... on it, if you can buy 1000 business cards for 30 $.
I use a lot of tricks in which I have to write down a prediction, so instead of using pieces of paper I use my businesscards. And at the end I get to say 'keep the prediction'. It's a lot more subtile then 'here's my businesscard, book me pls'.

For example, Rain Man from Lennart Green uses 5 predictions, so I can give away 5 business cards everytime I do the trick.

Here's a good cheap website www.vistaprint.be

Just have business cards done instead of custom printed Playing Cards. Dont hand out your business card out unless asked either. Theres nothing I hate more than people who force their business card down your neck.
