CD Marker better than Sharpie?

Postby Wishmaster » Jul 4th, '09, 19:53

Hi all,

This is one I've come across before and put it down to the pens. But...

I'm just in the process of marking a set of bikes with a sharpie and am having a hell of time getting them to work properly. I have 3 brand new sharpies out of 2 different packets and each one is a fine tip. When I draw on the cards, the nib keeps drying up after a few strokes and the lines made aren't completely opaque black.

Just to compare, I tried using a black CD marker pen and I get a perfect, solid black line each time.

Does anyone else have this problem? I can't say I'm impressed with sharpies for cards. Up the revolution! :D

Cheers,
Wishmaster.

I've had that problem with Sharpie minis in the past but not with the standard ones... perhaps you just got a bad batch? Might be worth making mild complaining emails/noises in the company's direction for a refund?

I wondered at first if the hot weather was causing the nib to dry out quickly when in use. But, they seem to dry out only whilst in direct contact with the card itself and work normally again when used with paper.

I'm going to have to nip to a stationer tomorrow to buy a different brand of wide nibbed marker in case it's just that. Another excuse to visit a stationery shop. SHE will be so pleased :D

Cheers,
Wishmaster
