Random Card selections

Postby moodini » Feb 24th, '05, 07:17

If I could have you all keep your eyes and ears open on this one, I would like to know what the statistics are on random card selections......Can you please chime in and tell me what you find to be common card selections by a spec when orally they are allowed to pick any card of choice.....Ace of spades aside....I would be curious to know, as I am considering prepping for a few shows with a set up trick, and hoping to play the odds.

Really depends...
Girls commonly queen of diamonds, but when they want to be tricky, they do something of clubs

Boys, 2-5 of clubs cause they always want to fool magicians.

Read Derren Browns "Pure Effect"... that should help with your answer

I think Banacek's "Psychological Subtleties" has similar info.
(Sorry - can't check! I'm at work!).

It also depends on your setting. If they're looking at a red sheet of paper they'll probably think of a diamond. Making signs with your hands will influence their decison aswell. Also think of your wording.

Random thought of cards I know are the 4 of clubs, and the 3 of diamond.

Just some ideas.

I agree! Derren has many ideas on the 'random' choice of cards which he outlines in a chapter in the 'Pure Effect' book.....however NO method is ever going to be 100% with cards!! (IMHO) lol

David Blaine is often seen doing 'mind reading' pure and simple and hits EVERY time with his method! Wow, I hear you cry, but look on the cutting room floor round at Mr Blaines editing studio and then decide whether it is 100% accurate!!

But, to his credit, in his book 'Mysterious Stranger' in one chapter he lists his theories on which member of the public is more likely to pick above others. A good read - even if you don't play along with his treasure hunt (because the prize went ages ago!!)

PM me if you like and I will point you in the direction of a killer effect which is almost 90% a killer !! Won't post any more info on that here for obvious reasons!!

A great "device" i use to make sure it is 100% accurate is the "breakthrough card system"... look on the reviews, there are plenty of posts for it
I tend to have all my decks set up with this, and you can do thought of card anytime. But definatly read Derrens book, or try and get a copy of Devils Picture Book (his video) which i believe is available on his website again.
Anything else then let us know
