As I said before, I think it was by far the best 'Event' so far and the little newspaper nugget at the end makes me think that we've been right all along - hopefully there's more to these events than we've all been thinking...

Just along those lines - whatever came of the Machester Utd thing? You'll remember there was a backward message in the original ads - I've seen some stuff on youtube about what it might relate to (pm me if you've not seen it).. but I must have missed any official announcements.

Maybe that's something else he's saving for next week?

The Stonehenge ending gave me a real little frisson. But it rather killed all his protestations that he had no idea what the picture was of.

I'm assuming we all saw the circles all over the background in the museum banners, even in the architecture of the railings. They were even more obvious in the Channel 4 website, for those who looked at the online preview. Which also makes it less likely that the design was some randomness thought up in a cupboard somewhere.

For a minute I toyed with the notion that the whole series was based on "last week's topic is this week's sneak" -- that is, last week was supposedly all about subliminals, and now this week is using subliminal circles. (Even the newspaper ads were described as an attempt at subliminal influence.) But this doesn't hold up, since the supposed "wisdom of crowds" effect doesn't apply to the "stick to your sofa" hypnosis.

This Event was a lot closer to Derren's usual home ground -- mind-reading, subliminal influence, remote viewing, a little bit of spectacle with the light bulb -- and I think that's what made it so much better as a programme.

So, we're being asked to believe it was all down to the availability heuristic (look it up)? It's possible, but I'd like to see some data.

i think the vast majority of people posting so far in all the new db threads have either been saying "oooh me sir! me sir! i know how its done"...or calling all this the death knell of his career...

though i enjoyed the david blaine episode last week, i'd like to see him top db's episode last night...i dont think he can personally...

Yeah - this was head and shoulders above the previous episodes. The whole thing hung together properly, and yes - there was a bit of a shiver with the ending (even though it was ostensibly the same ending as in the Gathering).

Definitely. I thought this series would be stronger. The initial Wednesday night lottery prediction was weakened by the Friday "explanation", and that had a knock-on effect. Last week was seen by a lot of people as tedious suggestion, but this week had more depth and scope to it. Hopefully, next week will leave the nation in awe. Part of me thinks it has to.

Last night's show wasn't live, by the way. He's been away performing on a cruise since Wednesday. Got back into port this morning. Or is that the fauxcess this time

Nah, I'm sure It was the traditional method.

you have to remember that when Houdin did this for the mahouts, his presentation of "Robbing them of their strength" was an example of sugestion in action.
