I often use the erdnase colour change. Its visual and can be used in a squa-billion number of ways. Jay Sankey uses it a lot aswell

Break,
Somesort of Control to the Top,
False Shuffle,
Palm,

Maybe the break isn't really considered a sleight, but it's really useful.

I use the following to do almost all my tricks:

Breaks
False Shuffles
Control to top/bottom
Palms

If you had those down pat, you could produce almostany effect.
