Craig, if you re read my "first post" you ll see that the aim of my question is not about the Q&A act but to point me towards lectures about "peeking inside sealed envelopes" and as u can see i did some research and even provide some stuff that Klangster found very interesting.
So hey...no hard feelings :)

But thanks again for all the inputs

There are a plethora of different methods you could use. Derren's is very sneaky though indeed..

Eshly, you don't need to copy Derren's techniques. There are Q&A routines in both Corinda and Annemann as well as plenty of other techniques that you could use. Just think about it, forget about all the dressing up that Derren does and just think about what it is that you need to do. You need to somehow get hold of the information that's in those envelopes. There are plenty of ways that you could do that, one in particular is very very simple and is what I've based my Q&A routine around. You'll find that idea in plenty of beginner books on magic, I know it's in Mark Wilson and Karl Fulves.

Just think about what it is that you're actually doing and don't get distracted by all the extra mumbo jumbo.

Once again, our very own Lady of Mystery has hit the nail on the head!

As I've said before, I love Osterlinds routine in 'Very Modern Mind Reader'. Is it the same as DB's Oracle Act? No - because it involves you moving out amongst the specs to hand out the cards and envelopes and then have them sealed and handed back to you. But it's perfect for most of us, it's got misdirection in movement and a foolproof way of gaining the info.

Now, this method won't work for Derren because he's playing to 1,000+ seater auditoriums. But most of us aren't!! I can see why Eshly might be interested to know DBs method out of curiosity but I (as I'm sure all of us!) can think of a number of ways that he can get the info.

Lady of Mystery talks of Corinda - in fact if you look at the recently released DVDs (Osterlind again!), I'm positive that they reveal the exact method used by Derren to gain at least some of the info during 'Evening Of Wonders'

However, this thread has peaked my interest in Q&A again and I think I may have to bring it back into my act sometime soon :)

I love Q&A. Hopefully be doing tons of it this year!

A lovely link that I think Iain posted a while ago. A bit old school for some perhaps, but I love it. And it shows that there really is nothing new in this world.

Burling Hull I believe it was, had a book on Reading Sealed Messages, I know he covered this topic in some of his other books as well.

Falkenstein & Willard tip their handling on the L&L Video's bearing their likeness but in all truth, this sort of thing really has become a bit passe' simply due to the public's exposure to the John Edward style of doing "psychic stuff"... yes, it's a great "Trick" but sadly, that's frequently how it's viewed. I'm not saying that it's "wrong" just that this version of Q&A requires a bit more showmanship and "selling" skill for like the classic blindfold, it's just a hint "dated".

:? Pardon... I just can't explain things the way I want them to be conveyed this morning :?

You don't have to do the DB method. You could essentially do it the old school way or use whatever peeks you like and still the job done just fine.

The Acidus Novus CD from mevproshop.com has an awesome Q&A routine that I've used a few times. But in all truth, the "best" Q&A routines always use multiple methods, not just one or two but more like three or four. The purpose of which is to obfuscate deception altogether.

When it comes to sealed messages/questions I personally lean towards using clearing liquids and an array of applicator methods (Borodin has a most amazing method in "Final Curtain")

I still have to echo what several have said here about the M.O. and NOT using what Brown or any other "pseudo-celebrity" might use, it's always best to develop you own handling.

The other echo that must be made is the fact that the Q&A is the single most potent bit of genuine Mentalism extant. It is the stage version of doing the Private Reading and as many yesteryear masters have sustained, this is the epitome of what Mentalism is all about.

Anywho, just a few more penny's of thought...
