Special Delivery - David Regal

I've had this as one of my first gimmicked effects and I was reluctant to write a review on this - because I haven't seen too many people perform this version of card to impossible location..

Anyway, here goes :

Effect

Official Spam
Special Delivery is an outstanding card-to-impossible-location routine. It is easy to do and will stun your audience.

A rubber-banded stack of window envelopes in placed in plain view. A freely selected playing card is signed and returned to the deck. The spectator looks through the stack of window envelopes until a card is seen inside one of them. You open the envelope and inside is the signed selection.

A creative new method is used to perform this classic effect. There is no palming. The extremely convincing climax is visually perfect. You will fool yourself.

Comes with a photo-illustrated booklet and a special gimmick that makes everything happen. Very easy to do and guaranteed to fool.

Difficulty

Any beginner in card magic can perform this ( just one small sleight every card magician should know ) ; but as with everything, presentation is the key to morph this 'neat trick' into a mircale..

Review

Well, let's just say that it delivers everything promised. I was a bit skeptical as to how this effect could be achieved without palming, but all my doubts dissolved when I read the instructional booklet.. It's very very fair. Only one card can be seen through the envelope window. The audience sees your hand take out the same card through the window and Voila - It's their signed card..

The effect can be as simple as the one provided in the blurb above, but I knew this was destined for greater things - and this can be performed not only for playing cards, but for other stuff as well - billets, bills etc. ( though some changes will be required - obviously )

As a note, there are no presentational ploys on the instructional booklet. I was a bit disappointed with that at first, but then saw the silver lining in developing my own script for this effect to suit my style.

The booklet also has a way for reset..So this one definitely fits the bill for restaurant magic.. Also included is a way to make fresh gimmicks yourself ( Which would hardly cost anything )..

After developing a suitable presentation for this, I performed it for a couple of friends and I was extremely happy with the reactions ( as with any card transposition effect ) and I think it's a steal at the cost.

Price

US $15 off most magic dealers.

Final Verdict

8.5/10 - For those who still not haven't got a satisfactory palming technique, this looks just as fair as any other card to impossible location.

Some of the best effects out there are the older ones IMHO.
As far as the effect, the illusion of you removing the card and showing it to be the signed card is close to perfect.
I really like the envelope.
In fact, I use the envelope in My hold it buster routine as the KICKER to show a card appear inside.

Yes that's a great idea. This can be a kicker ending for almost anything ! I would probably say that it's a great out if things go sour, probably even as good as an ID if you know some basic card controls..
