I'm a fan of routines where the participants do most of the card handling - I'm lazy that way.

That said, I don't do much palming. Perhaps I should give it more thought.

The specs can shuffle the deck until their arms drop off and you can still control the outcome - easy peasy!!

I like to do the gambler's cop. That's about the only palm i'll get in to.

Oh and i like Paul Harris' Invisible Palm trick.

I also like to read palms. So yeah, palms = good.

Fair point,

I just find that asking them a simple question is enough misdirection for any palm to work well.

Its just occured to me that puting the card back on the deck, is way more nerve racking than taking it away, because theres a wee bit more heat on the deck , than on an "empty" hand

I'm surprised that there are magicians who don't palm. You can get along great without it, but its a very useful tool to have.

One of my favourite things, once the selection was palmed, would be to get the spec to place the deck flat on the palm of his hand, and to really concentrate on the card rising up through the deck. I'd scrunch my eyes up a little on the "really", and the frequency with which people closed their eyes when they concentrated was quite a surprise. No small surprise either when they opened their eyes to see me stood with their card stuck behind my spectacles.

I use palming all the time. I did read somewhere though that alot of magicians stay clear of effects which make use of the sleight. I suppose its down to personal preferance, and maybe confidence. jim

Haha, I like think the best feeling in magic is when you have palmed the card off into a pocket or under the card case. Then you can just sit back, let them shuffle and cut, do whatever they like with the cards, totally secure because there is nothing to hide anymore so you can just have some fun

I'm with TonyB. For whatever reason, palming came naturally for me but my DL is atrocious.

Top palm and gamblers cop I use them all the time. With that said I am going to swim upstream and add palming is not necessary. And a good performance is a good performance. Palm or not.

I experienced nothing but pure fear the first time I palmed a card - done on the spur of the moment as a spectator announced "I want to shuffle them too!"
After that sphincter clenching first time I've used the palm EVERY time.
Like the TT, stay calm, act normal, DON'T LOOK AT IT. but the most valuble lesson I could teach is wait. Don't be too keen to "square away the deck" straight away.Waiting is the hardest part
