planning on starting coin magic in June or July of 2010

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Come on these guys are some really good magicians we're talking about Jay Noblezada
Michael Ammar
Mark Mason
Wayne Dobson
Jay Sankey
Craig Petty
David Penn
David Roth
Paul Diamond
Jeff Sheridan
Garrett Thomas
and John Bannon

Most of those guys have almost never come out with something that's of inferior quality or a weak effect.

I'm currently in the process of learning coin effects and have been ploughing through Bobos (the book version) for a couple of years, I've found it fairly tough going, but the amount of material included is incredible and I always feel a huge surge of pride when I learn a new move.

Also I'm currently in Canada (having arrived a couple of days ago to stay for a month with my girlfriend) and was only just admiring the coins yesterday, still got to experiment with them, but the dollar looked pretty useful, and the twoonie seemed almost comparable to the British £2.

With regards to what the guys who've posted replies to you King, I don't believe the're saying that these tutors are no good, rather the teaching resources you list aren't the most suitable for someone just beginning with coins. They are trying to help, so you don't try and run before you can walk.

Thanks for your reply and I've actually changed my list again because I was chatting with Michael Rubinstein on Facebook last night and he convinced me to get rid of the Jay Sankey DVD and this is my new list now. Most of it is still the same but there's a couple of differences in it:

In The Beginning There Were Coins by Jay Noblezada
Mojoe by John Kennedy
Mirage Coin Set by Craig Petty
Metamorphosis by Wayne Dobson and Mark Mason
Scotch & Soda, Dime & Penny, ChinaTown Half (World Greatest Magic) by L&L Publishing
Coinvexed 2.0 by David Penn
Ammar Complete Intro To Coin Magic
Miracle Chip by Mark Mason and JB Magic
Professional Close-Up Mat
Charming Chinese Challenge
David Roth Expert Coin Magic Made Easy 3 Volume Set
5 Chinese coins (still deciding on what color I should get so if you could tell me what you think would be good for that Charming Chinese Challenge I'd be really grateful)
Master Levitation System by Steve Fearson and some of his new Vectra Line thread.
Chinatown Half gimmicked coin
Scotch & Soda gimmick coin
and Dime & Penny gimmick coin

You are correct, they are all "really good" magicians. I would bet good money that they all have at least two things in common:

1. They're great coin manipulators.
2. They learned the basics from Bobo's.

And yet Bobo's isn't anywhere to be found on your long list. Toss out your list and replace it with the book Modern Coin Magic by J.B. Bobo and the 4 DVD set release by the same name. There is plenty there to keep you bust for a year.

So following my last post I've been experimenting with a the $1 and $2 coins and they're actually rather cool for certain manipulations, smaller and lighter than most other coins I use but VERY easy for classic palm (although my 2 or 3 years of practice with Kennedys and old pennies may have prepared me somewhat).

Anywho, although they're none too pretty, they are definitely workable coins for you to be starting with. Also as they're your native currency you should be familiar with they're handling.

Unfortunately I can't learn from books for some reason because of my learning disability but I can learn things from visual teaching like videos and I added David Roth's Expert Coin Magic Made Easy 3 volume set which is pretty much one of the best resources for learning coin magic and I already have the Bobo book in PDF form and I've tried reading it for the past 2 weeks now and I don't understand a single word they're saying in that book so for now I think I'll stick with the stuff that I'm getting in June or July of this year.

I might have found some people who can get me some cheap Mexican Centavo's American Half & Silver Dollars and Chinese coins that are as big as an American Half Dollar for cheap and somewhat new. So I'm hoping to get them soon so I can get the feel of them and not feel awkward using them.

I can only buy magic once per year so I want to have stuff that will last me for at least a year maybe even 2 years that's the only reason I'm buying all this stuff.

You know, the information held in a book, or on a dvd will last you a lifetime.
Props break.( Most gaffed coins need regular repairs by the way)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
