I have been working hard on getting a routine together. It is pretty much scripted and has the demonstrations and effects I want, however I am struggling with how to end.

I would like it to have a lot of energy so the evening finishes on a high. When I saw Luke Jermay's show he ended with a mixture of predicting which seat would be chosen by which colour was in a randomly chosen envelope that was picked, one of which contained a cheque for $10,000.

I was thinking maybe something similar however instead of the seats having colours under them they have the participants names. Just trying to work out a method of achieving it. Oh and no cheque!

What would you or rather how do you end your routine? High energy? Eerily? Suddenly? Or what kind of effects would you recommend?

LETS SEE.....

forgeting the chair choosing bit for a moment.. Thats your bit. :)

what you need to do, maybe, is once they are sat down, you ask them their names. you do this, so you can write them down on some strung cards, which you hang around their necks like a name tag.

whilst you do this, your either double writing, or using an impression envelope, to get their names within a sealed envelope.

your task is now to have that envelope arrive under the chair, or stuck on the back.
since you have cover..( they are sitting down ) Sticking it on the back isnt difficult.
and if your wanting it under the chair, then you have a larger envelope underneath, and you introduce the envelope with the name inside, into this, whilst opening it up.

( As in bank night / just a chance effects)

I think I may have solved this bit by "massaging" their "free choice" (no bingo). I just reached a solution as to the names getting on the chairs too but it relies on an assistant so I prefer your suggestion as I had not thought of using a double writing. I think envelope under the chair would work better but you have got me thinking about the back, I might have a solution to this bit too... in fact as I type this I think I have.

I'll pm you my thoughts if you do not mind.

theres a nice chair routine on Paul Stockmans dvd where the specs have coloured cards in envelopes to reveal. It doesnt really predict who sits were though.

use an assistant, and use the dunninger ploy...she can then prepare the envelopes, bring them on under the guise of another reason (i'll leave that up to you) and there you have it... :)

This was kind of the solution I had in mind but would rather not use an assistant if possible.

The colour card thing I already worked out but thought the names would have more of an impact and make it more personal.

Ignoring my seating thing for the moment, what other effects would you recommend ending on? I know it would depend on the type of show, I imagine a seance ending on a more sombre note than mentalism for some reason however for a pure mentalism show what is a strong way to end?

I have Q&A as my penultimate act but thinking about it there is no reason why this could not be light hearted and full of energy.

I wouldn't end on a Q&A, because It doesnt really have a climax.
Everybody I have ever seen do the routine, left me with a so what feeling after he's read a couple of answers out.
Even Derren, doesnt end with it. He does that fainting bit, then comes back on, to do his big show prediction thing.

This was my concern, not enough closure.

I like the way Derren ends Evening of Wonders because it all "appears" a bit rushed but does a great job tidying up all the deliberate loose ends in a seemingly impossible way.

When Luke Jermay ended his show the premise was that he genuinely had money on the line and had predicted how to keep his money safe but four randomly chosen seats, again although the build up to this began slowly, it increased in momentum until it became a "bam, bam, bam, thank you, good night!" (no bingo :P).
