Magicians IT

Postby bombbob » Feb 15th, '10, 16:05

Hey.

I recently brought a reel of magicians IT. This was the first time I've ever seen the stuff, and I have absolutely know idea how 'invisible' it's supposed to be.

The thread just seems to be black sewing thread - which can't even be considered invisible in any setting. It's easily viewable from any angle with any light.

Have I misunderstood how I'm supposed to use it? Am I supposed to pull tiny parts of the fibre away from the main body of the thread? Or have I been sold a dodgy item?

Cheers.
Rob.

Presumably who ever you bought it from sent you the correct stuff. You can get it pre stripped as well, but it costs more. :)

Ohh, I see. I shall try that. I thought it was a bit silly using something so thick...

Thanks.

As Dale said, you need to strip it. You can get it pre stripped but its more expensive. If you have any problems with your stripping  drop me a PM

sounds to me like your messing with wolly nylon, or more commonly now to magicians as IT( i didn't abreviate it because i dont concider that exposure of any thing because im not discussing a trick). a couple tips on stripping it and using it... when stripping it, work in a bright area and on a white surface. as far as using it goes, stay a few feet away from the spectator, and not aound florecent light, they cause a reflection on the thread.[/list]

Thanks for all the help. Yea, I'll try stripping it today. I got some magicians wax with it as well. This is going to be a steep learning curve learning how to use both to create a levitation...

Cheers.

might i recomend a dvd by a magician called Shimshi.( I think he was on the U.S Version of B.G.T Last year)
He gives quite a good explanation on seting up threads
and its very inexpensive on Amazon..

.The Ammar etm dvds are very good too.

I'm sorry I had to grin at this post. I remember I sold some IT to a customer and a dvd and I explained the whole process. Customer, after watching the DVD came back very confused. The problem it seemed was that on the DVD, for clarity's sake they used dental floss in place of the IT even though everything was carefully explained. Didn't matter this still caused great confusion for my customer who A) thought I ripped him off because his IT was not nearly as thick or visible or white. And B) that it would never work even if I gave him the big white IT because it in fact was not invisible.
